The Panic of 1893 destroyed many small businesses and laid off many workers; however, battle creek's citizens persevered and by 1896 had erected a frame courthouse which still stands today (now used as an event center). In 1898, after years of debate between City Hall and State government about where to locate central government services for both cities, Battle Creek chose to move from its original location on First Avenue to Second Street east of Main Street due to its size and importance as a manufacturing center for paper products such as pulpwood lumber and paperboard American Paper Corporation (later Kraft) among others during the Steel-age industrial Revolution. Pulpwood lumber production stopped completely around 1914 due to competition from other industries but local millers continue to produce paperboard until this day using large scale production facilities that remain open today along 2nd Street east of main street

Battle Creek is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan and the seat of Battle Creek Township. The population was 41,904 at the 2010 census, making it the third-most populous city in Michigan. It is part of the Grand Rapids–Kalamazoo–Port Huron Metropolitan Area and is considered part of the Detroit metropolitan area by most definitions. The first settler in what would become Battle Creek was Levi Wright, who arrived in 1824 with his family from Kentucky. In 1830, he married Anna Maynard, daughter of James Maynard and his wife Eliza Ann (née French). In 1832, Wright founded a small town called Indian Hill on land that he had purchased from the Ottawa people near present-day downtown Battle Creek. He named it after General Anthony Wayne's invasion force that had destroyed Fort Dearborn three years earlier during the War of 1812. After Hull's victory at Lake Erie against Tecumseh's forces on July 26, 1813 (the battle that led to American independence), Wright renamed Battle Creek after General Wayne's army and town became an official part of America as early as September 5, 1814 when Treaty of Prairie du Chien ended hostilities between United States and Great Lakes nations. In 1840, Anna Maynard met John Hennepin while she was working as a domestic servant for him in Chicago; they married two months later and moved to what would become Battle Creek where Hennepin worked as a civil engineer for various railroads throughout Michigan before becoming its mayor in 1907. They were also responsible for building many homes within what would become Battle Creek township including their home at 4609 Wabash Avenue which still stands today and has been used as a hotel since 1918 As America grew increasingly industrialized during the late 1800s, factories began to open up outside of traditional agricultural areas like Ohio or Pennsylvania because there were better labor opportunities available outside those states’ borders due to new transportation technologies like locomotives and railspace development techniques pioneered by George Stephenson in England beginning around 1840th century industrial revolution & American westward expansion thru railroad companies wagon trains
