That same year saw construction begin on what would eventually be known as Oneonta Village; this addition to Auburn Hills added 2,500 homes to the city's housing stock and increased property values significantly. From 1941 to 1945, Oneonta Village served as headquarters for General Motors Corporation (GMC) during World War II due to its strategic location near Ford Motor Company's production plants in Dearborn Heights and Highland Park. During that time period, GMC established itself not only within Auburn Hills but also across Michigan as one of America's leading automakers. As American industry shifted from manufacturing towards service businesses during the 1990s and 2000s,[1] GMC began announces plans for further expansion into new marketshare throughout North America including intoCanada[2]andMexico.[3][4] On October 1st 2006 GMC announced it will close its Flint Assembly Plant effective December 15th 2006 leaving 1 million people without jobs[5] although some have argued that this closure should not have been sudden given prior warning about problems at Flint Assembly Plant through memos made available online[6][7][8]. On January 6th 2007 rumors surfaced online stating that GmCorp may be selling their assets outside Of United States borders such as Mexico City or Canada[9], sparking fears among many citizens about how their communities could be impacted if such deals went through[10]. However these rumors turned out to be false after GmCorp confirmed they are just looking for ways to reduce costs while keeping their factories open while they figure out all their legal options.[11][12] On February 3rd 2007 President Bush signed Executive Order 13426 announcing $15 billion dollars in loans modifications being offered to distressed US companies facing bankruptcy or other issues[13]. This announcement caused total shares prices for major US corporations like GEICO skyrocketing because investors believed Bush had bought them out before any serious consideration was given to their financial stability [14],[15]. On March 12th 2007 reports emerged indicating GMC may files Chapter 11 bankruptcy due largely to debt payments associated with product recalls dating back several years [16],[17],[18]; however no formal news emerged until late May 2007 when GMC filed paperwork revealing they are seeking government bailout money worth $17 billion dollars [19],[20]. Shortly thereafter consumers started lining up at local gas stations across North America tryingto buy stock in GmCorp hoping it would go down since there appeared little hope that anything could be done about their collapsing company A possible reason why so much public attention has been focused on GmCorp lately could likely be attributed partly to two factors: First off CEO Bob Lutz recently stepped down after 10 years leading Cadillac division - something many feel put pressure on him emotionally; secondly recent revelations regarding widespread problems at Flint Assembly plant which led many people who invested in Cadillac shares along with others inside GmCorp fearful he might not last long if things got worse
Auburn Hills is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan and the county seat of Oakland County. The population was 71,547 at the 2010 census, making it the third-largest city in Oakland County after Detroit and Lansing. It is part of the Flint metropolitan area. Auburn Hills was first settled in 1835 by fur traders from Russia and Napoleon's army as a trading post on what is now called "The Green Mile". The name came about because of nearby Redford Park, which was also home to Mines Road Station on the Kalamazoo River where goods were unloaded for delivery to other points east across Lake Huron. The town grew rapidly during World War I due to new production at General Motors' Rouge factory in nearby Auburn Hills; however, activity declined afterwards as war manufacturing shifted focus to munitions plants outside of America. In 1957, GM announced its intention to sell its Rouge plant and much of its furniture and Manufacturing Division assets including some factories in Auburn Hills were sold off as part of that sale along with other assets within GM such as Redstone Arsenal near Birmingham, Alabama In 1954 US President Dwight D Eisenhower delivered his State Of The Union Address from the Palace Theatre in downtown Detroit while located just across Woodward Avenue from GM's Rouge plant site. On January 29th 1955 Cadillac/Eagle Car Company opened their dealership adjacent to then location of current Ford Motor Company headquarters on Gratiot Avenue NW (now Dearborn Street) which became one of Cadillac/Eagle's early dealerships throughout North America On October 12th 1956 Chrysler Corporation announced it would be building a new product line - unibody body cars - under head designer Carroll Shelby at their facilities just south of Pontiac Boulevard near Mound Road serving suburban Detroit suburbs including Oak Park & Iron Mountain In 1958 when Pontiac Automotive Products merged with Chrysler Corporation forming Pontiac-Chrysler Industries Plymouth Plant opened both operations sharing common design engineer & workers
