In the early 1900s, Auburn Hills, Michigan was a busy town with plenty of industry. One of the businesses in this growing community was The Rifle and Pistol Shop. This business did not stop at pistols, but also sold rifles and shotguns. In 1912, they started selling bipods- a new type of rifle stock. At that time, rifle stocks were typically made from two pieces of wood that were glued together to form a unit. bipods were different because they were built from three pieces of metal: the upper receiver (the front part), the lower receiver (the back part), and the baseplate (the middle part). They used these parts to hold the rifle in place so it could be fired from any angle. This new way to shoot firearms quickly gained popularity and The Rifle and Pistol Shop continued to sell bipods until 1941 when they switched to using barreled shotguns for their business.

The city is named after Auburn, Alabama, and was founded in 1836 by Shawnee Indians. The first permanent settler in Auburn Hills was John Prentice, who built a log cabin on what is now Griggs Street. In 1837, Prentice's brother-in-law James McKay started a fur trading post near what is now North Avenue and East Woodward Boulevard. This early settlement helped lay the groundwork for later growth in Auburn Hills as traders and entrepreneurs began to settle there. In 1839, Ohioan Richard Harding bought land from the Shawnee Indians and established his own town called Harmony Township on West Indian Hill Road east of downtown Detroit. Harding's township included much of today's eastern sections of Wayne County including parts of present-day Auburn Hills as well as portions of Opelousas Township and Highland Park Township north of I-75. In 1840, Harding sold his land to General Cassius Clay for $20 per acre (approximately $ !). clay developed it into one of the most important industrial areas in Michigan during the 19th century due to its location near high water tables that allowed him to explore new mine sites while also making some key contributions to both American Civil War efforts and development in Detroit itself. In 1843, General Lewis Cass ceded control over all British Columbia territory west of Lake Huron to United States President James Kildare Polk because he felt that US interests would supersede those of Canada south of Quebec City – a position which Cass had occupied since 1793 when he became governor general following George Washington's death intestate. As part as part of this process, Kildare ordered Captain John Stevens (USN) commanding Fort Mackinac along with Major Thomas Sellers (USN) commandant at Michilimackinac Island — located just off the southern shoreline about midway between Petoskey Peninsula on Houghton Peninsula eastward across Georgian Bay towards Superior — renamed "Fort Mackinac" pursuant to US military regulations then governing Northwest Territory proper subject only to Canadian authority within that Limits; thenceforth "mackinac". On October 15th 1800 US forces under Commodore David Dixon captured Pointe aux Meadows Lighthouse Ontario side from French Canadians who were occupying it during their winter campaign against British forces under Lieutenant Colonel John Strachan (1st Battalion Royal Canadians) along with 100 men commanded by Rear Admiral David Stockwell RNVP — consisting mostly English speaking Canadiens led by Rear Admiral Edward Cornwallis CBE () off Long Beach beach opposite Pointe aux Meadows lighthouse — during Battle Of Long Beach or Siege Of Long Beach as Illustrated By A Painting By Gilbert Stuart entitled "The Capture Of Fort Mackinac" Also Captured At Pointe Aux Meadows Lighthouse Were 400 French Canadian troops commanded by Colonel Jacques Duchesneau de LaFontaine & LtCol Pierre François Couture
