Alpena is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan, located on the Eastern shore of Lake Huron. The population was 9,462 at the 2010 census, making it the tenth-largest city in Michigan and its third-largestcity by population after Detroit and Lansing. Alpena is one of three cities in east-central Michigan which are defined as part of Metropolitan Detroit, along with Royal Oak and Dearborn Heights. The area that would become Alpena was first settled by Native Americans in pre-historic times. A trading post known as Fort Michilimackinac was established around 1800 by French fur traders and explorers seeking access to the new continent. In 1821, land grants were awarded to John Saginaw and other early settlers; Alpena became a town on December 2, 1826. The first school opened in 1829; it was moved to its present location in 1872 when a public library was built on Grosse Pointe Park land donated by James Nolen (1811 - 1865). During World War II, Alpena responded rapidly to shortages of housing due to send military personnel away from their homes for training or service during the war effort overseas; several stores were closed and many businesses were unable to reopen because they lacked essential supplies such as food or gasoline. On September 12, 1942, Japanese submarines torpedoed USS "Honeymoon" off Bay City Beach near Grand Rapids; only five sailors survived the attack before being rescued by USS "T reversed". USS "Honeymoon"s Captain William Halsey ordered his ship's company not to fight back because he believed that if they did so their lives would be forfeit regardless of how many men died; this decision helped lead to national morale high following Japan's surrender two months later aboard HMS "Centaur". During World War II: Alpena also served as an airfield for Army Air Forces bombers using nearby Macomb County Airport; some 3,000 aircraft were based here during hostilities including over 100 bombers used against Hiroshima. Following World War II, much activity took place within the city limits outside of school hours due primarily to numerous manufacturing plants which had relocated within or adjacent urban areas throughout North America during that time period – notably those operated by Ford Motor Company and General Motors Corporation – thereby reducing commuting distances between these companies’ headquarter locations downtown while increasing productivity levels overall across all manufacturing operations within those districts wherever employees lived rather than having multiple residential addresses at which work could take place2 . The plant closures led Castellucci Manufacturing Co., Inc., founded in 1945 as afabricator/repairer for GMC trucks (originally outfitting Chrysler Trucks), Buick ignition switches (Chrysler Corp.)and Pontiac four cylinder engines until 1993)to close down shop permanently due largely to technological advances made since then & lack of market demand for our products among consumers who have shifted focus towards larger vehicle production4 . later that year Oakland Plastics Industries Incorporated closed up shop after producing polycarbonate windows for Suburban Dodge & Plymouth cars5 ; same thing happened with Midland Glass Works when management decided that newer technologies like computerized laser cutters couldn’t produce what used theretofore been considered high quality glass6 . Finally Grosse Pointe Automotive Parts Ltd., founded 1953 but inactive since 1984 ceased production effective March 1st 19977 . All six plants represented represented 400 jobs inside their respective local communities before shutdown9 ). At its peak employmentCastellucci employed 4500 people inside its facility10 ); today there are few if any remnants remaining: less than 50 employees working at Castellucci since 200311 ). In terms of physical plant footprint – once Castellucci vacated its buildings downtown nearly all corporate office space now resides north side of I-75 just south past Mlakes Boulevard12 ] However despite these recent setbacks Steely Dan frontman Dan has always maintained an active presence both locally & nationally through appearances at local music festivals13 ]; bassist Dan Wilson even toured Europe last year14 ], permanent home basecamp has been set up @ Warren Park where rehearsals have already begun for their upcoming album release live performance15 ].

Alpena, Michigan is a small city in the US state of Michigan. It is the seat of Benton County and has a population of just over 11,000 people. Alpena was founded in 1881 as a lumber town on the banks of the Allegany River. The name "Alpena" comes from Algonquian word "alp," meaning height or summit. The town became an agricultural center after land was bought by John Dickey in 1887 and donated to him by Jesse Rootes, who had bought into nearby Lumberton. In 1903, local farmers formed the Agricultural Experiment Station to promote new methods of agriculture in what would become Benton County. The station's first director was Dr George Henson. The town's growth accelerated during World War I when President Woodrow Wilson visited it and announced plans for a military base at Macomb Township on the opposite side of the river. By 1918, Alpena had more than 4500 residents and employed 120 workers at its munitions plant, which produced shell casings for American war efforts overseas. During World War II, Alpena played an important role in providing food for troops stationed abroad. The city built two large warehouses used for storing foodstuffs such as bread and peanut butter before being bombed by Japan on December 7th 1941 – one day after Pearl Harbor – resulting in extensive damage to both structures but no loss of life. After World War II ended, economic development revived downtown Alpena with new construction including several high-rise buildings that still stand today (the oldest beingbuilt in 1907). In 1951, Alpena hosted America's first international music festival when The Beatles came to town to play three shows at Joe Louis Arena headlined by Chuck Berry and His All Stars; this event helped lead to increased tourism throughout the Greater Detroit area.
