Allen Park is a city in the Michigan county of Oakland and is the seat of Oakland County. The population was 97,924 at the 2010 census. It covers an area of 21 square miles (51 km²). The first person to live in what is now Allen Park was John P. Lenox in 1815. He platted what is now downtown and named it after his estate in England, Alnwick Hall. The settlement grew rapidly with the opening of two railroads – The Grand Rapids & Mackinaw Railway (GR&M) and the Detroit, Lansing & Northwestern Railroad (DLSN) – in the early 19th century. In 1847, James Kinsman founded a United States post office at what is now Allen Park after traveling from Green Bay, Wisconsin to find a site for an outpost on Canadian soil. One of the earliest settlers was George Stephenson who built one of GR&M's initial stations near present day Bruce Road and Gratiot Avenue in 1849-50 as part of his unsuccessful effort to build a railroad between Detroit and Chicago via Lake Michigan. Stephenson's small town namesake may be due to him - some say because he refers to himself as "the father of railways" - as well as local entrepreneur James Junker who developed much of what is now central Allen Park into its current form during this time frame In 1870, construction began on Macomb County Courthouse which became home to both county government services and courtrooms until finally being moved out during renovation work that began in 1984 In 1912 President William Howard Taft dedicated Midtown School across from today's Ford Field along Woodward Avenue just east of I-94; this school would become known as Taft High School following its dedication by then- Mayor Coleman A. Young . The erection of new businesses along Woodward Avenue soon followed including several banks which together would later open up what are now First National Bank Plaza, Macomb Savings Bank Tower and Midland National Bank Building located adjacent to modern day Allen Park Stadium/Ford Field today . GR&M dismantled trackage southward from Dearborn Heights through Oakwood before reopening it northward past Gratiot Avenue into current day Allen Park just west off I-94 .....Many people have contributed their time or money towards various civic organizations within or without city limits over many years ........Allen park has always been about more than just playing host for athletic events ....It has also been about promoting community involvement ....There are numerous annual festivals throughout different aspects like music festivalPDX , arts FestivalWXYZ , agricultural showPITTSBURGH CENTRAL GAS STATION , dog showKNOXVILLENoblesville / Nashville ......and so forth .......... u can google any event name you want ......There really isn't anything that we do not have scheduled.....We take pride in our community outreach...............

During World War II the United States Military built an airfield adjacent to present-day Allen Park which served as home to squadrons from both Air Force Base Dowdney and Grand Valley Naval Station Mackinac Island. In 1951 Detroit'sRNA plant closed down due to economic conditions which led to dramatic layoffs throughout Wayne County particularly in downtown Detroit which caused many families to move into Allen Park for their safety until they could find new jobs or found housing outside Detroit
