That year saw the opening of what became Dearborn County through an act of Congress under then-President James K. Polk – at that time Dearborn included all present-day Michigan except Detroit – with headquarters at what is now downtown Allen Park and other towns including Orion Township (founded 1836), Arlington Heights (1841), Eastpointe (1845), Highland Park (1848), Westpointe (1851) and Hazelwood (1903). With growth came development problems: inadequate housing stock, uncontrolled street noise and speeding motorists created serious safety hazards for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers alike; Congregationalism soon emerged as a dominant religious denomination among local residents; oil production led to high levels of pollution that seriously harmed health conditions such as asthma; nevertheless, Allen Park has always been an important center for automotive manufacturing due to its location on Interstate 95 between Detroit and Toronto with access to world markets both ways

The first settlers were white men from Pennsylvania who arrived around 1795. They named their new settlement for General Anthony Wayne, a hero of the War of 1812 who had fought against British forces at Lake Erie as part of the American army under General William Hull. In 1824, James Kinsman drove a wagonload of potatoes downriver from Holland Landing (now Sault Ste Marie) through what is now Midtown Allen Park to join fellow farmers there. By 1830, Kinsman and his family had erected a log cabin on what became known as "KINSMAN's Station." The area around today's Ford Road and Groveland Drive was then known as West Side Township because only men could purchase land there until 1847 when women started to own property too. The town plat was filed in 1834 with the name "Allen Park," but it wasn't until 1840 that residents decided on its current name after General Anthony Wayne's headquarters for three years during the war against British forces at Dearborn Heights (now Detroit). During World War II, Allen Park played an important role in shipping food supplies across country by boat to military bases throughout North America

Allen Park was first settled in 1836. The area now known as Allen Park was part of the Township of Washtenaw and was named for General John C. Allen, who served in the U.S. Army during the Mexican-American War. The first brick building in what is now Allen Park was built by Major Wm. Kincaid on North Live Oak Drive in 1837. In 1850, a sawmill and gristmill were built west of present day Gratiot Avenue and east of US-24 near what is now Eastern Market Square. In 1865, a post office was established at Allen Park with James Haggerty as the first mailer. By 1870, there were six stores and thirty seven residents in Allen Park. The population increased to one hundred fifty five by 1900 but declined to seventy two by 1910 due to World War I and the Great Depression. There were no more than twenty three residents until 1945 when they began growing again due to suburbanization within Dearborn County which led to new development along Gratiot Avenue including shopping malls and high schools which have since replaced most of the older housing stock in what is todayAllen Park
