Adrian is a city in Manistee County, Michigan, United States. The population was 6,321 at the 2010 census. Adrian is part of the Grand Rapids–Wixom Metropolitan Statistical Area. It was named after Adrian College, a private institution founded in 1854 by Rev. John H. Adrian and his wife Anna Prentice Harper. The first settler in what is now Adrian Township was David Webber who arrived in 1798 from Pennsylvania and platted the township on July 10, 1798. Webber's son George followed him to make the same claim to land that his father had made before him. webber name for the township was incorporated as Adrian on October 3, 1800; it may have been derived from "Webbershire" near Great Britain where many of these early settlers originated or it could just be coincidence because there were no other towns chartered within this area at that time. In 1824, Revs John Haddon (1792-1868) and Anna Prentice Harper (1800-1859) established an academy located on what is now Washington Street in Adrian which became known as Adrian College with initial classes starting on September 7th of that year under Mr. Harper himself and continuing until 1830 when he moved onto Ann Arbor to become its first president and professor; the college helped found Gratiot University in 1894 and eventually became one of Michigan's largest public universities with more than 100 undergraduate programs across a dozen faculties including Arts & Sciences, Business Administration/Management/Engineering/Technology/Law & Justice, Medicine & Dentistry/Dentistry & Veterinary Medicine, Nursing Home Administration/Management & Supervision etc… In addition to general education courses offered throughout all campuses various minors such as Fine Arts degree%, Veterinary Medicine degree%, Food Science degree%, Political Science degree%, Environmental Studies degree% were also offered through specializations such as sculpture making woodcarvings dyeing glass painting pottery Buttonmaking quilting metalworking etc… currently over 350 students attend each campus daily participate in over 200 adult coursemodules while also enjoying over 50 extracurricular activities comprising Music Theory music appreciation Dance History Theater Painting Puppet Making Zology drama grouping together Common Core Learning Standards…. Mrs Harper passed away suddenly at age 92 June 25th 1984 due to a fall which caused her brain hemorrhage leaving behind an unfinished legacy which she would continue working on until her death two years later……………………………………….. According Adrians history can start with Reverend John Haddon who started teaching at Aces Academy then moving onto Alfred College where he taught until 1830 when he took position at Ann Arbor’s new school called “Adrian College” He would continue teach here until his death 2 years later……………………………………….. Reverend John Haddon’s wife Anna played an important role too during this time as she cared for their young children while their father worked but once they reached adulthood she took care of things herself……………………………………….. In 1832 Mrs Harper sold her share back to Mr Haddon for $1000………………………………………. This left Mrs Haddon sole proprietor of the school but still had some input into instruction decisions since she continued to live upstairs along with 4 young children……………………………………….. From this point forward Aces Academy would offer General Education Courses only while Alfred college continued offering Specialized Instruction like Sculpture making Pottery Dyeing Glass Painting Quilting Metalworking buttonmaking zology theater….MrsHarper died suddenly aged 92 June 25th 1984 without any further plans or projects being put forth so Aces Academy became Wayne State University................................................. In 1836 Reverend John Haddon married Miss Charity Lewis who came from a family of educators themselves so combined forces they opened another school called “Clark Institute”later renamed “Michigan Technological University”This school offered several different types general education courses along with specializations like Mining Engineering Metallurgical Design Technology Transportation Engineering Mechanical Engineering Manufacturing Automotive Building Architecture landscape architecture civil engineering electrical engineering computer science physics math............................. Clark Institute closed its doors permanently due To financial difficulties sometime between 1870-1887...................................................................................... At this point Reverend John Hudon decided it was time for new beginnings so he started again by opening up yet another school called “Adrian Female Seminary”Now known as Holy Cross Convent....................................................................... Finally after many failed attempts ReverendJohnHandonestablished himself back home in Adrian with his current establishment called Holy Cross Convent effective Fall 1889................................................. In 1898 Rev Dr Charles Wirthman came across adrian from looking through Ads Classifieds and decided it might be a good place to settle down after being divorced from his last wife.............
