The business became a national success and Chappe was able to retire at the ripe age of 96 in 2002. Chappe's son, Guy Chappe, took over the family business in 1978.Guy Chappe has been the head of Adriaen's Gun Sight Company for more than thirty years and continues to lead the company as President and CEO. In 2013, Guy Chappe was also named an Entrepreneur of the Year by Forbes magazine. The history of Adriaen's Gun Sight Company goes back to 1892 when Adrian Chappe and his brother Frederic opened up their own store on Main Street in Adrian with just a few tools. The brothers quickly made a name for themselves selling high-quality rifle sights and accessories to shooters all over the United States. During World War II, Adrian served as an officer in the Armed Forces and he learned how important it was for men like himself to have good shooting gear so they could protect their families during wartime. He started manufacturing his own riflesights after he retired from service in 1953. After World War II, he started making rifle sights for other game animals such as elk and deer which were being hunted commercially by Americans across Canada at that time. His products soon caught on and began sold throughout North America including Europe where he had some success selling his sights to British hunters too!

This device consisted of a small aperture built into a lens used to view targets from behind cover. In 1907, French scientist Adolphe Brillouin developed what is now called a Weaver Eye Sight, which permitted projectiles fired from firearms using rifling (the round's grooves) to be more accurate than those fired without it. The history of Adrian begins with two families who immigrated from Bohemia, now Czech Republic, to what is now Adrian Township on the banks of the Rouge River in 1871. They named their new settlement after their father's native city, Prague; however, they soon realized that there were no bridges across the Rouge River so they built one themselves and named it after themselves: "Adrian". In 1880, when Washtenaw County was created from part of Wayne County, Adrian became part of Washtenaw Township within that county. In 1905, because Washtenaw Township had been divided into two nearly equal parts by a US Supreme Court decision known as "Moses v. Watkins", Adrians council voted to annex portions of neighboring Dexter Township which included most of today's southeast side neighborhood called Dearborn Heights (now Welland Heights); this annexation would give Adrians a total population for the first time exceeding 25,000 people. The following year saw a major fire at an aluminum smelter located on Maple Road near present day State Route 521; although only minor damage was done to buildings inside or outside town limits caused by the blaze (the plant never reopened), it served as a catalyst for development around town with more businesses opening up and homes becoming available for sale. Adrian is home to one of the original two universities in that county, Albion College and Western Michigan University. It also has a number of smaller businesses and industries. Adrian is located on the southern edge of Portage County and shares borders with Muskegon Heights to the east, Lapeer Township to the north, and Hillsboro Township to the west.
