Woburn, Massachusetts is a town located in Middlesex County, Massachusetts. The population was 485 at the 2010 census. It is the smallest of the eight towns in Middlesex County and has only 1,000 residents as its total area. Woburn's history dates back to 1636 when it was part of Ipswich. The first settler from Woburn was Moses Ayres who erected a house on what is now Main Street in 1636. In 1801, Woburn became part of Worcester County and remained so until 1959 when it became part of Middlesex County again. The town's name comes from Richard Childe's wobbly walker which he called "Woburn Walk." The first school in Woburn was built in 1792 by Reverend Samuel Severns. A second school building was built in 1824 by Rev John Higginson and a third building was built in 1830 by Rev Samuel Morse. In 1855, the state legislature voted to build a new high school which would be known as Western High School (now Northeastern Regional High School). Construction started on October 20th and ended on December 7th of that year after only two days due to weather problems. On April 3rd 1865, an important milestone occurred when Dr John Fenton-Bennett became the first white teacher at Western High School! In 1959, Woburn became part of Middlesex County once again and still follows this process today with each municipality having their own political branch within the county government headed by an elected official who represents all residents within their jurisdiction including those residing within municipalities other than their own. Today, Woburn remains one of the most traditional small towns in America with its economy centered around agriculture or service industry jobs such as retail sales or restaurant work; however there are also some sizeable businesses such as American Eagle Outfitters located just outside town limits which have helped keep things ticking along for many years now despite occasional economic fluctuations caused by global recession or maybe something more random like an ice cream truck going up for auction that draws attention from locals but doesn't actually cause any real economic impact? This system allowed users to reload their handgun from either an open or closed position. The revolver market share of handguns increased after 1911 as magazines became more popular with shooters. The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution protects Americans' right to bear arms without government permission. The amendment states "A well regulated militia, being necessary tothe security of a free State, the right of individuals to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed." Woburn is a town in Massachusetts, United States. The population was 14,872 at the 2010 census. Woburn is part of the Boston metropolitan area. The town was first settled by English colonists in 1636. Woburn lost its charter as a town in 1781 but regained it in 1847. It became a city in 1907 and remains an incorporated municipality today. The first settlers to Woburn were those who accompanied Captain John Smith on his exploration of what is now Vermont in 1636-37. At the time, there was no organized government in America and most of what is now Massachusetts had not yet been colonized or explored. One of the early settlers, Thomas Hutchinson, petitioned for a Charter from King George III to establish a town within the new colony of Massachusetts Bay on May 12, 1637-38 (the precise date remains unknown). When it was denied him because he lacked land holdings elsewhere within the colony, Hutchinson founded Woburn as an alternate settlement for himself and his family on July 3rd of that year (the day before present). On October 1st of that year, Samuel Sewall became one of four members elected to serve as Mayor pro tempore for the new town which had just become operational; they were empowered with all authority related to municipal affairs including taxation and building permits. On December 15th following their election, Mayor Sewall and two other newly elected members traveled to Great Farthingale where they met with Plymouth Colony's governor Christopher Jenney about how best to organize traffic throughtown center during winter months when ice prevented vehicular travel outside the square mile boundaries around either house/church complex known then as "The Square". After returning home via Kingston upon Hull three days later on December 17th,Mayor Sewall reported back that "A great many people are below stairs" – an indication that trade or business activities were taking place inside Town Hall at this time! This indicates that early inhabitants lived primarily around Church Street (now Main Street), Streetside taverns like The Grogshop & Tavern Royal & Crown Inn along Church Avenue between Kingston Road & Southbridge Road (now Washington Boulevard), Market Place east towards downtown (now State Street) and later downriver at venues such as The Palace Theatre & Brunswick Tavern untiltown walls could be built up again circa 1650 (& possibly earlier). In November 1638 Governor Jenney ordered 2 surveyors from Plymouth Colony to go into Woburn assess its resources needed for defense against French raids occurring off Cape Cod . One such surveyor was Captain John Eliot who returned with findings dated January 30th 1639 which recommended constructing 8 miles long palisade wall surrounding all 400 acres within “New Town” thereby protecting it from possible attack by French forces should they penetrate any further into our territory’ . In accordance with Captain Eliot's recommendations 4 lots were purchased from Abraham Webster , Chief Justice & Elder Of Providence Congregation vowing “That we will assist you every way we can both publickly And privately” . On March 10th following receipt of these gifts Treasurer Robert Newbury informed Captains Eliot and John Winthrop concerning money raised thru sales conducted throughout “New Town” since January 7th inclusive…This demonstrates how important commerce/trade customers felt during this time period especially since much valuable Aboriginal land still remained uncolonized Governor Simon Leverett granted charters unto 9 more townships forming Middlesex County on April 5th following Jameson's Rebellion It should be noted here that although Worcester County officially formed on February 11th1640 -Worcester residents did not actually migrate until sometime after this date due largely to fears surrounding Indian attacks emanating from neighboring Berkshire County- peripheral areas like Middletown may have seen some rudimentary development before Worcester got its own county courthouse / jail / schoolhouse etc… Much like modern day Waterford -Spencer -Westminster - Newton - Danvers etc., there existed pre-existing settlements+communities+markets+services+infrastructure+etc... prior TO Worcester joining MA et al.. Consequently some pretty amazing things DID happen RIGHT BEFORE THE COUNTY LAUNCHED ITS FIRST ELECTION DATE….including: * First settler recorded Jacobs Farm near East Quogue Rd./Route 6 – August 3rd 1600* Second settler recorded Abram Webster's purchase of Lots #2&3 @ Meeting House Corner opposite Cotton Mill June 20TH 1700* Third settler recorded Isaac Eaton picnicking near present day Whiteaker Pond September 9TH 1700* Fourth Settler Recorded arrival OF Dispensers Andrew Goodspeed AND Joseph Baker AT Lower Ferry Landing July 25TH 1701
