Woburn, Massachusetts is a city in Suffolk County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 25,811 at the 2010 census. It is the fourth-largest city in Massachusetts after Boston, Worcester, and Cambridge. Woburn is located on Eliot Avenue east of Interstate 5 and north of Route 128. The first settler in what became Woburn was Ebenezer Cook in 1764. He named his farm "Ebenezer's Land", but it was later renamed to "Woburn". The town first appeared on a map dated 1801 as "Worcester". A post office called Woburn had been established in 1812, and the name changed to its current form on July 1, 1868. The first store opened in 1817 under the name of Cooper & Company; it closed in 1902. In 1850–1851, the village of Woburn consisted of only a few homes and four stores; by 1860, it had grown to include over 100 dwellings and 12 stores. In 1898–99 during construction of I-5 (the precursor to today's Interstate 95), part of which was near present-day downtown Woburn, businesses along Eliot Avenue were destroyed when runaway water tanks from nearby General Dynamics plants burst open while being drained for repairs made to I-95 mainline upgrade work project. No one was hurt but much damage was done to buildings including storefronts with broken windows and bricks flying out from inside walls where water seeped into spaces that were then flooded with raw concrete until all drywall came off due to rot! This made national headlines as this type of event happened during an era when television programs showed real life disasters like floods or earthquakes so residents could learn about them before they occurred! It took many years for insurance companies to fully assess what happened and replace some or all the properties damaged as a result of the burst tanks

Woburn, Massachusetts is a town in Worcester County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 21,868 at the 2010 census. Woburn is one of the oldest towns in New England. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Woburn were two brothers, Samuel and John Winthrop who journeyed from England to America in 1630. In 1689, Englishman Nicholas-Augusseault founded a trading post called "Nicollet" on the north side of the river Stony Brook near present day downtown Woburn. This early settlement was destroyed by Indian warfare in 1701 and again by smallpox in 1715. In 1818, Woburn became part of Worcester County when it was created from parts of Middlesex and Hampshire Counties. The town's history can be traced back to its incorporation as a village on April 14th, 1825. The first courthouse was built on State Street (now Elmira Road) within what is now the limits of today's downtown core; this building still stands and serves as headquarters for the county government today. On February 24th, 1827, Town Meeting voted unanimously to annex Hortonville east of Main Street into Woburn; this annexation resulted in the creation of what are now portions of both sides of Elmira Avenue between Main and North Streets.. That same year saw an important event when Drs Joshua Morey and Jabez Prescott donated land east of Elmira Avenue for educational purposes which would later become Mount Holyoke Seminary. By 1830 there were over 100 residents living within town boundaries; this number would gradually increase until it reached its peakpopulation around 260 by 1860 despite some defeats during that decade such as defeat at Boston Common against British forces during The American Revolution). In 1861 local resident Josiah Quincy served as Mayor following his election victory over incumbent Elijah Norton with 53% of the vote against Norton’s 47%. Quincy led an insurgency against Worcester County authorities which successfully fought off numerous attempts by officials to tax or remove him from office prior to his death five years later at age 70%. During that time period there also developed significant infrastructure projects such as new roads (the current route of Route 128), sewers and bridges needed for increased growth while also creating jobs opportunities for locals. With limited funds available after years outside investment dried up due largely to global economic recession beginning around 1907 CE these efforts helped keep Woburn afloat through difficult times until well into World War II when most manufacturing effort shifted westward away from eastern Massachusetts += Since then much has changed with population decline culminating with only 20K residents remaining by 2000= = Today much focus remains on arts & culture including music/dance/ theatre events throughout year along with open fields hosting farmers markets all winter long
