Westfield was first settled in the mid-1600s by English Puritans. At that time, they were looking for a place to live free from religious tyranny. They soon realized that there was plenty of land to grow crops and hunt game, but no room to build homes. So they began construction on what would become the largest town in Massachusetts. The settlers built houses out of wood and earth, and they fired arrows at targets to train their eyes and muscles. Over time, Westfield became an important center for trade and industry. It was here that farmers learned how to cultivate corn, beans, hay, lumber, and other goods. And it was here that manufacturers created new products such as rifles and shotguns. In fact, the town became so prosperous that it decided to build its own courthouse in 1698. This building remains one of the most impressive structures in Westfield today. Of course, not everything went well for Westfield during its early years. Some people did not appreciate the bohemian lifestyle these pioneers had set up. In fact, there were several minor skirmishes between settlers and Native Americans who lived nearby. But ultimately, the town grew up around them and continued to thrive until 1818 when it merged with Framingham into one larger city called Boston proper!

Westfield, Massachusetts is a town in Massachusetts that was founded in 1764. The population of Westfield was 15,828 at the 2010 census. It is located on the border of Hampshire and Berkshire counties. The town was named for Reverend Nathaniel Westfield, who arrived in Boston in 1638 as one of the indentured servants of John Winthrop. In 1764, Westfield became part of the newly created county of Hampshire. In 1836, it merged with neighboring Arlington to form what is now called Arlington Heights. The first post office opened in 1764, and remained in operation until 1865 when it was replaced by Northampton. Westfield has a rich history and has been home to many famous people including Samuel Adams and John Adams Sr.. In 1835, Rev. Nathaniel Westfeldt organized a church which still meets today at Tryon Chapel across from State House Park. Reverend Westfeldt also served as president of Harvard University from 1831-1835 and taught there for many years before his death in 1846%. During World War II, much activity took place within the large munitions plants located adjacent to town including Thorsen Aircraft Company (now Boeing) Arsenal Complex west of town on Lebanon Road and Goodyear Tire & Rubber Plant on Elmwood Avenue east of town on Salem Rd.. Two bombed out buildings still stand near Arsenal Complex - One used as a car dealership after the war while the other became known as "The haunted house" because residents would often report seeing something moving inside during daylight hours according to some accounts
Westfield was founded in 1692 by John Winthrop, who named it after his home town of Westford in England. The town rapidly grew, and by 1851 it had a population of over 100,000. Over the next few decades, the city underwent significant change; its boundaries shifted several times, and its infrastructure became increasingly modernized. In 1951, Westfield merged with other nearby towns to form the larger municipality of Easton.
