These streets still exist today with many homes still standing from when this area was rural farmland used for farming only. In 1853 the first store opened in what is now downtownWestFIELD In 1865, when Worcester County erected its own courthouse square on Third Street between Market and State Streets, merchants began to look south along Fifth Street towards Park Square where they could open their stores facing onto Fourth Street which led to some confusion because Fourth Street ran east-west instead of north-south like most US streets do! The correctorrect situation finally corrected itself when Judge Augustus Fenton bought property on Third Street between Market and State Streets - thus creating what we know today as "Judge's Square". This event marks one of the earliest steps in developing what would eventually become DowntownWestFIELD In 1886 – thanks to an agreement made with Providence Railroad Company – tight restrictions on building started being relaxed allowing more brick buildings to be erected including several banks which are now part of First National Bank Plaza across Broadway from James Brown Arena (formerly known as Cowles Hall). At this time too much horse manure lay scattered all over Druid Hill Cemetery so developers decided to move it out into backyards where it can no longer lay fallow every year; thus setting off an entire citywide horticulture craze! In 1901 same developers gave us our current Butler’s Corner grocery store located just east across Broadwalk from Brown Arena later becoming Macy’s department store . . . all without even thinking about it back then because there wasn’t really anything else close by! All those years later we can finally say that DowntownWestFIELD actually did have a beginning…
