Westfield, Massachusetts is a town in Westchester County, New York, United States. The population was 19,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New York City metropolitan area. The town was first settled in 1788 by Congregationalists who had emigrated from England. The name "Westfield" was given to it by Major General James Westfeldt and Colonel Jonathan Edwards because they were looking for land that could be used as a grazing ground for their horses. A community was founded near modern day Westfield on the east side of the Hudson River in 1793 by local farmers and traders under the name of White Plains after some settlers found wild hay there. In 1814, when the Erie Canal was completed connecting Buffalo and Albany, New York, farmers began to develop what would become Westfield as a commercial center with its own canal system. In 1827, when President John Quincy Adams appointed Amos Kendall superintendent of Indian affairs in Western New York, Kendall recommended that Westfield be established as an agency for Native Americans since white colonists were not fulfilling their treaty obligations with them. The village became an agency on July 1st, 1829 and later received township status on October 26th of that year. On February 15th of 1846 (the date US$1 worth $20 paper bills were created), Westfield became fully incorporated as a municipality within the new county of Westchester although it continued to operate as an Indian Affairsagency until May 3rd 1898 when all agencies within new county were merged into one department called Department of Interior and Commerce which became known asDepartment of Homeland Security today I grew up just outside Boston so I have always been interested in things related to America's northeast corner – specifically my home state’s downstate region including central NY which includes parts of both Western Long Island Sound (west side) and Southern Queens (east side). I never realized just how significant westchester County’s holdings withinNYC were until I moved here 10 years ago! When I started my business studies at Hofstra University I quickly realized how much economic potential exists here – especially if you are interested in real estate or development! My research has shown me that whilewestchester County may not have “the most beautiful shores” or “the most dramatic cliffs” per se like say ireland or scotland does- it HAS plentyto offer entrepreneurs such as myself who want to capitalize on its location! So far this year alone we have seen several high profile projects come online due to our great location – think; [new] york times building; kenmore ovens; [new] york city hotel & tower; [development] planned for central westchester!! Westfield, Massachusetts is a town in Hampshire County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 11,906 at the 2010 census. The name of the town comes from an English word meaning "west of the forest." The first settlers to Westfield were men who came overland from England in 1636 and 1638. They found a piece of land on which they built a small hut and named their new settlement after Westminster Abbey in London. In 1803, the town was chartered as part of Northampton County and became part of the Great Britain empire. In 1835, Westfield was divided into two townships: Woburn and North Adams. On January 1, 1860, these two townships were combined to form one large town called Westfield. At its peak enrollment in 1886 it had a population of 25,000 people. However, by 1920 only 10% of the population remained within the boundaries of the original town limits while most residents moved away to larger communities such as Arlington or Needham. Today there are only a few buildings remaining from when Westfield was such an active community with many businesses being located in neighboring villages such as Maynard or Groton where taxes are lower than in Westfields own village square. One sign that WestFIELD has not lost its vitality is that there are now multiple bars and restaurants open 24/7 serving up some amazing food! Although some residents may remember their childhood memories playing checkers on Broad Street (now known as Elm Street), today's streets have been renamed for more recent landmarks like John F Kennedy Presidential Library or Boston Common; giving visitors an opportunity to see how these places have changed since their heyday- something which cannot be said about most older villages which unfortunately lack any sort of current attraction making them liabilities for tourists looking for nostalgia reasons alone!
