The first settlers of Westfield were Quakers who fled religious persecution in England. They arrived on the Mayflower in 1620 and founded what is now known as Westfield. In 1801, James Kieft donated land to make way for a new town named after him, which eventually became Westfield. The town had a population of about 400 when it was incorporated as a village in 1837. In 1830, John Cranch bought part of the original Kieft donation and built a gristmill that still stands today called Cranch's Mill. This mill became one of the most important mills in the community and its products remain popular today including flour, wheat bran and other Feedstocks for manufacturing purposes. In 1839-1840, Edwin Channing built an iron works on land donated by John Cranch which became one of the largest ironworks in America at that time and continues to operate to this day; it employs over 350 people today! In 1851-1852 Samuel Morse began construction on his federal government canal through what is now known as Northampton Township; it would become one of the first telegraph lines across America! The village quickly invested in this new development and rebuilt their mills along with many residences to accommodate increased railroad traffic during this period. On December 6th 1863 Union General Ulysses S Grant arrived at Old Bridge Junction where he met with local leaders before crossing into Pennsylvania over Lehigh Valley Railroad (LV&R) into Bethlehem Heights on Christmas Eve 1863 - becoming one of only two US military leaders ever to do so! Afterward he returned home via LV&R into Bethlehem Heights where he stayed until January 20th 1865 when he crossed back over Lehigh Valley Railroad into Pennsylvania again – becoming one of only two US military leaders ever to do so while serving two separate missions! On January 21st 1865 President Abraham Lincoln issued an Executive Order calling all American soldiers home from abroad – making him America’s 40th President! In 1870 Benjamin Cardozo moved his law practice from New York City to WestFIELD & Cardozo & Haskell opened their doors for business doing much within Republican politics up until being forced out by FDR’s New Deal programs change !! In 1935 they closed shop because they could not compete against cheaper internet services offered by Bell Operating Company but reopened in 1938 under another name – Western Electric Corporation !! They continue operations until 2007 when they were sold by Verizon Communications Incorporated

In 1847, settlers renamed their new town Westfield after Isaiah Westfeldt, who had donated land to the town for a Baptist church and schoolhouse. In 1907, a electrical substation was built at what is now State Street and Center Road in Westfields center to provide power for local businesses and homes during the Great Depression. This substation remains one of the oldest electric facilities in Massachusetts today and still functions as an essential part of community life today! On October 14th 2018, Mayor Marty Walsh announced that they will be closing all schools within the next year due to declining enrollment rates caused by several high-profile shootings including Parkland Elementary School shooting that took place just blocks away from our school!
