Westfield is located on the eastern border of the state of Massachusetts and is bordered by Easton to the north, Pittsfield to the east, Holyoke to the south, and Amherst to the west. The first settlers in what is now Westfeld were Nicholas Haverhill and his family who arrived from England in 1636. Other early pioneers included William Bailey who settled in 1640 and Nathaniel Eaton who came in 1645. The town was incorporated on March 15, 1792. It became part of Massachusetts after that state seceded from Revolutionary America on April 18th, 1776. At its peak during World War II it had a population of 509 residents. In 1951 Westfield amalgamated with Easton and Holyoke municipalities to form South Hadley which still makes up part of Berkshires Today Census Data shows total population for South Hadley as 22118 including both townships

Westfield, Massachusetts is a town in Worcester County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 8,715 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Worcester– Fall River metropolitan area. The first people to live in what is now Westfield were the Wampanoag tribe of Indians who had been living there for centuries before that. In 1639, the English explorer and cartographer John Winthrop explored and charted the region around present-day Westfield when he traveled from Boston to Swampscott through Worcester County. He named it "Winchester" after his home city of London. The town's first settler was Nicholas Raynolds who arrived in 1718 and built a log cabin on land now known as Marsh Road. The first store in Westfield was opened by Capt. George Fenton in 1724. Incorporated as a town on December 3, 1868 under common law, Westfield became an official part of Worcester County on January 1, 1870. In 1872, two brothers by the name of Green bought land northwest of current-day WestFIELD (now within Springfield) and began developing it into what would become one of America's leading agricultural towns with their new Western milling company called Green & Company Ltd., which manufactured flour from wheat germ and other products from their fields until 1917 when they pivoted to beef production following World War I; soon after this event their company became part of Roundy’s Mills Corporation LLC). After five days of fighting Union forces finally entered Petersburg Junction destroying most or all rebel infrastructure including three bridges crossing Appomattox River (the only time such an action had ever been done in Virginia) resulting inLee's capitulation that same day giving up almost every major battlefield objective outside Richmond; facto putting an end to any chance for Confederate resistance northward]. A plaque marking this occurrence can be found at: Carruth Cemetery off US Route 20 near mile marker 21st/22nd British Columbia Canada In early 1865 some men from nearby Pawtucket went out into rifle range across private property owned by Edward Stevens betweenpresent-day Pawtucket Bridge roadstead along Rte 186 about four miles southwest then downriver a short distance to where Easton Pond empties into White River – today’s Southwick – near present day Pawtucket High School] On April 10th 1865 Private John Sprague responded to reported shots fired behind home about two miles northeast [from present day Sprague Road], walked over and found fifteen rounds shot through door handle[then] entered home never returning]; killed instantly despite attempts by owner(s) numerous times since then…This event is documented on physical evidence located at: Sprague Estate - off Sprague Rd., approximately 2 miles northeast from current site] One possible theory surrounds why no one came back after going inside: perhaps someone upstairs heard shots but chose not to call for help as there could have been serious consequences if discovered Later that month Union General James Longstreet advanced northeast past Petersburg Junction towards Richmond reaching Catlettstown before turning southeast toward Yorktown thus ending any hope for Confederate resistance northward].
