Westfield is a town in Worcester County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 24,569 at the 2010 census. The town is part of the Boston metropolitan area. Westfield is located on the eastern edge of Worcester County and has a total area of 26square miles (66 square kilometers). It borders Fall River to the north, Salisbury Township to the east, North Reading to the south and west, and Southboro to the northwest. The first permanent settler in what would become Westfield was Increase Sumner who arrived in 1638 from New England. He named his land "Westfield" after his birthplace in Englantown Colony in England. In 1781 John Adams came to live there with his family and begin grow maize on his farmstead which eventually became one of the largest corn crops ever grown in Massachusetts In 1825 Samuel Morse bought 2 acres (0.8 hekm) of land just east of present-day Westfield from Increase Sumner for $500 dollars Morse had been working as a telegraph operator when he discovered an early transatlantic cable between Boston and New York City on July 6, 1824. He persuaded some friends including Amos Kendall, then secretary of state under President James K Polk Jr., to invest money in him so that he could build a line extending from Worcester into Massachusetts linking those two cities by way of Springfield or PittsFIELD On December 14th 1825 Morse sent a message over this new line from Worcester using a simple septenary code called THEODORE which still stands as an example today On January 10th 1830 Samuel Morse married Eliza Jane Weston In 1835 brothers Alfred Vail and George Stephenson built Woburn & Portsea Railway Company which connected Woburn with Watertown via Northampton, Hadley and Eastham along its now long abandoned right-of-way This railway connected what are now downtown Woburn with Holyoke Village near Easton where passengers could catch stagecoaches headed back home

The population ofWestfield was 84,549 as of 2018. In 1692 when the English colony of Rhode Island was sold to England for $10 million, part of that money went towards purchasing land in what is now Westford Township and portions of Northampton Township including present-day Easton and Winchester townships were also purchased from Native Americans for $2 per acre. This land would become known as "the powder factory." The first settler in what is now Westford Township was John Eliot who built his house on the site where today's park stands in 1693. John Eliot had two children with his wife Abigail: Benjamin and Mercy (named after her mother). After her death he married Sarah Stillman which resulted in three children: Sarah Phebe (1694-1764), Jonathan Edwards Stillman (1700-1772) and Mary stillbirthd daughter named Martha Elizabeth d'Israeli (1800-1810). As various families moved into this area over time there ensued numerous changes to the names given to these initial pioneers because they did not receive patent or commonwealth recognition for their lands until after they died or another family took them over .
Westfield was first settled in 1636 by Puritans. The town grew rapidly and by 1815 it had a population of over 10,000. In 1847, the town became a part of Massachusetts.
