Westfield is a town in Worcester County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 382 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Worcester–Fenway Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was laid out in 1798 by Captain Amos Weston and Drury Clark as Westfield Village. On November 5, 1825, it became a separate town under the name of Westfieldborough. On March 15, 1834, it became part of the Worcester metropolitan area and changed its name to Westfield. The first post office in Westfield was established on December 12, 1828. The first store opened in 1830. In 1836, the village had four churches: First Baptist (1836), Methodist Episcopal (1839), Congregationalist (1841), and Presbyterian (1843). In 1840-41, there were two schools: one for white children and one for colored children; both closed in 1865-66 due to financial problems caused by war with Mexico A canal was built through what is now downtown in about 1840 which led to increased trade with India In 1861-62 President Abraham Lincoln visited the town during his campaign for president In 1865-66 three schools were reopened: one for white children and two for colored children; both closed again soon after because of lack of funds In 1870-71 an electric streetcar line was built from downtown to Wilder's Corner In 1872-73 a Normal School opened followed by a Bible Training School which operated until 1978 When that school closed also all other religious programs moved away too busy using methods such as video conferencing instead

Westfield, Massachusetts is a town in Worcester County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 24,998 at the 2010 census. The town was first settled in 1636 by Puritan settlers. Westfield became a city in 1853 and adopted a charter from the Massachusetts General Court. It has since grown into one of the larger suburbs of Boston. The history of Westfield begins with its earliest settlers: those who arrived on boats from England in 1636. They built small houses on what is now the west side of Main Street and started growing maize and other crops. In 1737, they erected their first church, which still stands today. The town site was chosen because it had plenty of water resources and good grazing land for livestock. Over time, many other businesses were established in Westfield including tannery, bakery, saddlery, carriage making and wagon-making shops; all while providing jobs for locals and contributing to local economic stability and growth. In 1853, when Worcester County was created out of part of Bradford County (the same place as Worcester), Westfield became part of that new county as well; becoming one of its largest towns added to the community during that era. From its early days as an agricultural center – until after World War II when suburban developments began to take hold – Westfield remained primarily rural with few commercial buildings save for some small stores along Route 128/Route 9 across from downtown Worth Valley mall which opened in 1984). During the late 1800s through into the 1920s much development took place around Route 128 between Downtownworth Valley Mall (then called "Aurora"), then "Worth Valley" (), eastward along Interstate 495 northward to Bolton Hill Road () then southward to Southborough Avenue (). This included large housing subdivisions such as Highland Park (), Beverlywood (), Weston Village (), Chelmsford Gardens (), Manchester Square () etc., most developed between 1940-1950). Most notably this period saw heavy Growth around Interstate 495 - see also photograph above (now being called "I-495 Expressway") - resulting in many job losses for workers at nearby factories converted over to producing transportation products like autos or trucks due to huge highway construction projects underway at that time throughout New England (& later onto American Midwest). Today most residents are engaged mainly with their homes & businesses within their own neighborhoods - although there are some scattered restaurants & nightlife areas located throughout town proper

The area that now makes up Westfield was first settled by English colonists in 1630 and became part of Boston when it gained its charter as a town on November 3, 1786. In 1836, Westfield's main thoroughfare, Beacon Hill Avenue, was renamed New England Highway to commemorate the event. In 1958, two large companies merged: Motorola and Radio Corporation of America (RCA). This created one of the largest conglomerates in American history. At its peak, Motorola employed over 100,000 people across many industries including telephone systems, radios and video equipment; however this growth came to an end after Motorola agreed to pay $800 million to RCA in 1984 for patent infringement. In 2000s WETA stopped airing daily morning newscasts at 6 a.m., following pressure from Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia which wanted those local newscasts replaced with national programming such as "NBC Sports Network Presents: Eagles vs Patriots" during football games at Gillette Stadium. That year also saw the closure of KUSA-TV's transmitter facilities due to financial troubles associated with WETA's rebranding as "The Young Turks". On July 12th 2007 it was announced that Comcast would be buying Time Warner Cable for $45 billion giving them control over almost all UPN/CW networks including WBZ-TV (now Fox Television Stations) in Boston and WBEN-TV (now CW affiliate WLNE)in Worcester; this gave Comcast ownership of both NBCUniversal (the parent company behind Universal Pictures) and all cable channels owned or operated by Time Warner Cable subsidiaries except Turner Broadcasting System’s CNN which still remains under joint ownership by Time Warner Cable & CNN Worldwide Inc.. This change increased Comcast’s total market share from 31% to 76%.
