West Springfield, Massachusetts is a town in Hampshire County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 5,811 at the 2010 census. The West Springfield Historical Society is an organization that preserves and promotes the history of West Springfield. The first knife to be created in what is now West Springfield was a simple hoe. A man named John Adams had a garden and he wanted to use his land to cultivate crops so he decided to get some knives from Europe to help him with his task. He found some knives by chance while looking for tools in one of the local stores. Adams took these knives home and started making his own implements out of them. He named his new product the "Adams Knife." In the early 1800s several families moved into what is now West Springfield from other parts of Hampshire County. One family name that lived there for many years wasthe Smiths. They startedowning a blacksmith shop in what is now downtown West Springfield near where Main Street meets State Street. The Smiths were pretty good at making swords, spears, axes and otherweapons but they didn't really start selling knives until sometime after they bought the house on Main Street which stands today as part of the town line between Weston and North Reading townships). In 1815 John Quincy Adams (1767-1848), future Ulysses S Grant (1822-1885) and others met at their fathers home on Zion Road in present day Newton Center to form a political faction called Federalists which opposed King George III's rule over England After Martin Luther King Jr.'s assassination in 1963 many African Americans came intoWest Springfield through various means including busloads or trains coming from Boston or New York City each weeknight during the height of integration efforts across America A night bus stop next door on Northampton Avenue served as an important hub for people moving around during this era When Brewster Douglass became president of Howard University (1901-1902) he ordered all male students living off campus to move into housing set up specifically for them within two blocks of Douglass' recreational center on Union Square opposite Wellesley College It wasn't long before Douglass began importing Europeanknives into America through his personal connections here in WestSpringfield

The first settlers in what would become West Springfield arrived around 1770 when Captain John Smith sailed upriver from England with his Expedition of 1771-72. Captain Smith's group was made up of men from Rhode Island, Connecticut Colony, Plymouth Colony and Narragansett Bay Colony and they set about establishing farms near what is now downtown West Springfield. By 1800 most of these farmers had died or moved away leaving their land to be developed into townships which eventually became villages such as Amherst, Northampton and Hartford but for a time it looked like thosevillages might join forces with West Springfield when word spread that propertyowner Abel Littlefield wanted to movehis business from Norwich, Vermont so he could get closer to Boston where he could sell his goods more easily. However Littlefield's wish never came true because when Boston annexed Northampton it kept control over Amherst while Hartford took over Southwick which left little room for another village within our boundaries In 1836 Reverend Nathaniel Haskell bought 3 acres near present day Main Street for $50 dollars plus 10% interest This became known as Haskell Corner which later housed Haskell's grocery store until it closed in 1951 When Main Streets were renamened after World War II many residents chose "West" instead because that is how their street name appeared on maps created during that time There wasn't much change until 1953 when Downtown Development Corporation blockaded Congress Street between Elmira Road and Park Avenue making it difficult for small businesses like Mr.'s Hardware & Seeds store owner Harvey Dolan to open up shop next door since he couldn't get through security gates without having his sign stolen To make things right Mr.'s Blockbuster movie theater opened up down Elmira Road just across from Dolan's store giving everyone an opportunity to see a new blockbuster before it disappeared again just 2 years later . That building still stands today adjacent to State House Park . As mentioned earlier there have been few changes in central downtown since Hewlett Wheeler first established himself here in 1903 selling ice cream from a truck parked outside his house although traffic passed by him on Depot Street all day long back then! Today we have several shops along Main Street including Zaxby’s Pizza ($10 per order), 7 Eleven convenience stores ($2 per item), Dunkin’ Donuts ($) - home delivery service available - ABC News headquarters ($) - Staples off Broadway ($) - KFC also services area with fried chicken ($) - hair salon ($) etc... And finally there are several restaurants scattered throughout Walnut Hills including 5 Seasons steakhouse ($) Additionally there are numerous retail stores located around Clinton Square including Sears (), Macy's (), JCPenney () etc... Finally we must mention music venues like The Echo Lounge $$ situated on Quincy Market opposite State House$$ Live Nation also has an event ground located next door called Webster Hall which can seat 1,000 people for live events or large concerts $$ All told this gives you idea of just how active downtown West Springfield is these days although some areas may be quieter than others due to residential development going on elsewhere

West Springfield is a town in Massachusetts, United States. The population was 20,912 at the 2010 census. West Springfield was one of the original towns in the Colony of Massachusetts Bay. It was named for William Bradford, an Englishman who served as governor of Plymouth Colony from 1620 to 1625 and whose descendants still live in the town. The Town Meetinghouse located in central West Springfield first met on October 15, 1701 to consider and pass a bill establishing an exact valuation of all land within its boundaries. On November 5, 1702, work began on building what would become the first courthouse in America - also known as "The Old Courthouse". The cornerstone for this building was laid on December 12th by Commodore John Woolwich and Dr. Timothy Gagebury. In 1784, construction began on "The New Courthouse" which became one of the most iconic buildings in West Springfield. This structure sat above Market Street until it burned down during a fire in 1868. In 1892, West Springfield voted to annex neighboring Lynnwood into their community creating what is now called Everett Square. In 1909, voters passed an ordinance allowing residents to vote by referendum whether they wanted public transportation within theircommunity limits instead of having individual bus lines run between each settlement (a practice still used today). These same voters passed an ordinance defining Worcester County as being east-central Massachusetts rather than south-central Massachusetts like prior voting decisions had suggested and thus increasing Nonresident Voting Rights for residents living east of Interstate 95 by 1/2 mile (1 km). On November 6th 1922 voters approved amendments to the Town Charter forming two Village Committees with full authority over all matters pertaining to inhabitants thereof: One committee would be responsible for maintaining public works including street cleaning; another committee would be charged with managing elections and keeping track of property values; both committees would have power to pass ordinances imposing fines or other penalties upon any person found guilty thereof; no tax could be levied upon any property within said Village except that assessed taxes appertaining thereto may hereafter be levied upon such property subject only thereto aforesaid taxation...This formative period leading up to incorporation inaugurated many years of progress made possible by dedicated citizens who shared together their aspirations for our common future." After incorporation there were rapid growth opportunities due largely to increased business traffic along I-95 combined with expanding highway development outside town limits which caused more businesses seeking access away from downtown Boston thereby pushing ground levels closer together making streets narrower and sidewalks less accessible

West Springfield began as a small farming community in the early 1800s. The area that is now West Springfield was first settled by English colonists in the late 1600s and early 1700s. The town was originally called Woburn, but was renamed after Captain George Washington in 1784. In 1814, West Springfield became a part of the newly formed Massachusetts Bay Colony. In 1835, West Springfield became an independent town and remained so until 1959 when it merged with Eastfield to form the current city ofEastfield.
