Dodge would serve as superintendent of schools for Hampden County until his death in 1865 (); his son Ebenezer Jr., who succeeded him(), continued the tradition until 1893 when Wm Kapp announced plans for a new high school campus on Richardson's Run which would serve both Easton High School () and Southwick High School (), thus fulfilling Dodge's dream()). On July 1st,, 1907 local resident Elwood Humes organized a parade down Centre Street followed by a picnic lunch at Our Lady Of Good Counsel Chapel (); these events are considered historically significant because they marked the start of community gardening efforts within town limits - fruit trees were started throughout much of Somerville/Easton while vegetables were grown near Main Street north side where whole grain breads were baked.)
