West Springfield, Massachusetts is a town in Hampshire County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 12,849 at the 2010 census. The town is named after West Springfield, MA which was the original home of the Boston Tea Party. The first settlers to what would become West Springfield were men from Dorchester who arrived in 1636. In 1768, John Woolman and his family set up shop in what is now Northampton Square. They were followed by others over the next few years such as Benjamin Noyes and Nathan Hale; all of whom had families and businesses in West Springfield. By 1802 there were ten families living in what is now West Springfield with a total population of 184 people. In 1820 the land west of present-day Church Street was bought by Nathaniel Bagley from John Morse for $1,000 cash or five cows and six pigs. This area became known as "Bagley's Ranch" because it was used for agriculture only until about 1870 when lumber began to be extracted from the woods nearpresent-day Route 128/Route 3 (now I-495). The first post office opened on December 12th, 1825; called Eastborough due to its location east of Boston then known as Eastborough Plantation where General David Dudley Warner lived at that time served as Postmaster General under Presidents James K Polk and Franklin D Roosevelt before he resigned on November 15th 1917 over progressive tariffs being put into effect by President Woodrow Wilson while he served as Vice President under William Howard Taft during World War I. The current name of the post office came about on January 1st 1912 when it moved from its original address on High Street which had been destroyed by fire three years earlier according to one account . It should be noted that even though residents have frequently changed their names since 1912 most events associated with that year are still remembered including: Pioneer Day Parade held every July 4th throughout Hampshire County; Festival of American Folklore (FAML) held annually at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro beginning October 6th through October 10th each year featuring folkloric arts & crafts displays made possible by contributions received from local businesses; "Pioneer Park" located just north of downtown west of Main Street northeast corner Lake Way; special service days celebrated every Fourth Of July including National leaders' official visit (and photo op) fireworks display on Independence Mall across river from White House - this year also coincides with Unite THE Right rally attended by many counter protesters nationwide concurrent with Women's March taking place nearby.)

The town was founded in 1793 by General John West and his wife Betsy as a station on the road from Watertown to Worcester. In 1812, it incorporated as a town under the name of Waltham. In 1836, it changed its name to West Springfield because of its location on the western edge of Boston metropolitan area. In 1951, it became an independent city and retains its original name today. The town first developed around mills and farms that produced flour, cattle, cheese and other goods for local markets and consumers in surrounding towns such as Holyoke, Northampton and Worcester. These industries declined during World War II due to competition from larger towns in nearby Massachusetts cities such as Boston or Worcester. However, since the late 1990s there has been growth in businesses related to technology including information technology (IT) companies such as Microsoft Corporation and Amazon Web Services Inc., both located in downtown West Springfield; health care providers such as Health One plc.; real estate firms; rental properties; small businesses; agricultural holdings including dairy farms and cornfields; etc.; while also experiencing growth in outdoor recreation including mountain biking, hiking/biking trails through rolling hills called Green Hills Rd., ice skating at Husson Pond Reserve & ice cream parlors like Just Do It! Creamery & those associated with it throughout central MA The history of West Springfield goes back more than two centuries when General John West settled hereabouts with his wife Betsy after moving from Watertown where he had served with distinction during America's Revolutionary War efforts against Great Britain It was not until 1812 that Waltham actually incorporated when citizens voted unanimously to make their new home an improved township under conditions which would be followed "for general purposes." That same year saw another significant event - when Congress passed legislation establishingBoston's first municipal government - one formed primarily through amalgamation of several villages within what are now portions of Southborough County - thereby creating integrated municipalities across eastern Massachusetts which continued into19th century . On October 5th 1836 - barely one year after incorporation - Waltham's Permanent Court House burned down preventing any physical reconstruction until 1840 In 1861-1862 construction began on what would become known simply as "the New Town Hall" (later moved westward) at 6 Washington Street following approval by then-Governor Andrew Johnson who desired Hastie Square developments characterizing later sections of Springfield adjacent thereto but withoutactually adjoined by either:thus terminating plans forWaltham proper development becoming merely an annexe resulting nonethelessfromwhatwouldbecomeknownastheTown Center DevelopmentPhaseofSpringfieldHistory
