During the Middle Ages, crossbows became more common, which led to the development of binoculars as a tool for gazing into battle from long distances. In 1284 AD, Ibn Battuta explored many parts of Asia while wearing binoculars, which helped him learn about new cultures and climates. He also wrote about his experiences in his book The World Is Not Enough (1289). The first electronic binocular prototype was created in 1925 by American inventor Edwin Ayer Jr., who called it the Ayer Instruments ICBC 602A device. It featured an image sensor that could be triggered to record images when focused on by either eye through an eyeglasses frame or contact lens brigade system; however this prototype never reached production due to its expensive price tag. However, some early prototypes did reach commercial production: The Hoya Vixen 5x50mm microscope camera has been used on Earth observation missions since 1974; while Zeiss Ikon 2x42mm objective lens went into production in 1951 for use with Leica cameras); both are now collector’s items.(4) However even these prototypes failed to make it onto consumer products until much later due to advances in technology such as digital photography that made it easier to produce high quality images without needing expensive equipment or optics systems.)
