The Watertown Rifle and Pistol Club was organized in 1857. The first meeting was held on July 6th, at the home of Mrs. John H. Lawrence. A subscription list for agun case was drawn up and the club voted to construct one from durable log wood. On August 15th, the club met again to purchase some nails and saws needed for the case construction. The first gun cases were made from split logs with a length of 1 foot 4 inches and width of 1 foot 2 inches. The dimensions were not very stringent but they served their purpose well enough until better materials became available in the 1870s when softer woods became popularized as hunting rifles. In 1877, Mr. Samuel Morse donated $100 to help finance the erection of a new clubhouse which would serve as an education center for Rifle and Pistol Clubs throughout New England. This donation allowed for the purchase of two shotguns, four rifle cases, pistols, ammunition, instruction manuals and more! The building was dedicated on November 5th, 1877 by Mayor Augustus Payson Eliot! It is now known as Samuel Morse Hall! Over time there have been several changes to how soft gun cases are built: - In 1903, Congress passed legislation that banned lead bullets in handguns (the ban did not apply to rifles). As a result, manufacturers began using less expensive brass screws instead of lead screws in soft gun cases because it would be more difficult or impossible to break them off without damage? - From 1915-1920 there were attempts by gunowners to get Congress to pass laws requiring that every handgun manufactured after that date must use “titanium” coated steel screws instead of lead screws because it caused less wear on brass parts over time? - Beginning in 1968 there was an increase in lawsuits filed against firearm manufacturers alleging wrongful death due to shootings involving soft guns? The Watertown Rifle and Pistol Club was formed in 1836. It was the first rifle club in Watertown. The club held its first meeting at the home of Ebenezer Sprague. The club met twice a week until 1851 when it moved to the old Masonic Temple on Market Street. In 1854, the club voted to change its name to the Boston Rifle and Pistol Club. In 1861, the club changed its location again, this time to 239 Broadway where it remains today. In 1865, WRLP changed its colors from blue and white to black and red which remain their colors today.
Watertown is a town in the state of Massachusetts, United States. The population was 25,021 at the 2010 census. Watertown is part of the Springfield, MA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1777 by General George Washington and named for his hometown of Woolwich, England. It became an incorporated community in 1833 and a city in 1897. Watertown was one of the original 10 cities that formed Boston on July 4th, 1626. In 1777, General George Washington arrived in what is now Watertown to found the first permanent European settlement in North America west of Montreal/Newfoundland. At this time much of New England was unbroken forest and many towns were small villages with few tools or buildings other than their homes and huts. The first white settler in what would become Watertown was Captain John Putnam who built a house on Meeting House Hill around 1778-79. He married Sarah Goode from Ipswich early that year and they had six children: three daughters ( Deliverance (Dolly), Abigail (Betsy)) and three sons ( Jeremiah (Enoch), Nathaniel (Nate), John). Captain Putnam's house still stands today within walking distance of downtown Watertown as does also another early home built by him – known as "Putnams' Tavern" – which can be seen along West Main Street between State Street and Commonwealth Avenue where he served as justice of peace until 1828 when he resigned due to ill health In 1780 Nathan Hale came overland from Connecticut with his family following settlements being established throughout western Massachusetts under Captains Samuel Osgood and Israel Fenton among others looking for land to send back their families to Ireland during the Revolutionary War because many Irish settlers had come directly from Ulster without any attempt at displacement or migration . There are several accounts suggesting there may have been upwards of 50 families coming overlanders into colonial Massachusetts by this point including Hale's father Timothy who settled near Beverly , MA prior to arriving here himself with his wife Catherine . Many prominent figures such as politicians Jonathan Trumbull, James Bowdoin, Caleb Strong – all men of some means - came through town during these years including two future signers - revolutionary war patriots Oliver Cromwell and Richard Henry Lee Hale's older brother Timothy also participated leading up to Act 3 : steals car belonging to British Major Andros Townsend while out grazing near present day Middlebury Center ; return trip successfully made before nightfall after finding horse safe Another account claims they encountered militia while hunting deer on Mount Auburn property; return trip failed whenTimothy ran out with rifle but managed to get horse back before nightfall When English forces laid siege to Boston during Siege Of Boston force led by Commodore John Paul Jones succeeded in breakout resulting in death & destruction etc.. Aftermath Timothy went into hiding & eventually died about 1800s @ various locations unknown still living off charity
