Watertown, Massachusetts is a small town in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, located on the eastern edge of New England. The population was 18,868 at the 2010 census. It is the home of Watertown Arsenal and the site of many gunfights from its early days as a center for firearms manufacturing. The town's first gunsmiths were likely George Washington and his team ofmiths who built cannons for the Continental Army in 1775. In 1794, John Adams moved to Watertown with his family after fleeing Boston during the Boston Tea Party. Adams was one of America's first presidential electors and helped create what is now known as the Second Amendment to The United States Constitution. Watertown grew rapidly during Prohibition period in 1915-1921 when rumrunners brought illicit liquor into town from Canada whence it was distilled and exported by way of Watertown Arsenal into southeastern Massachusetts. Gunfighters frequently crashed parties hosted by local prohibitionists in order to indulge their thirst for bootleg booze while hunting illegal aliens or tracking down smugglers on horseback or on foot. Watertown was first settled by English colonists in 1630 as Walthamstow. It became a part of Boston in 1692 after its incorporation as a town. In 1768, Watertown joined with other towns in what is now Cambridge to form the new Province of Massachusetts Bay. In 1837, Watertown became the capital of that province and continued to serve as such until it was moved to Worcester in 1849. Watertown's history dates back to 1630 when English colonists arrived and founded Walthamstow on the east bank of the Charles River. This community grew rapidly due to its location and proximity to Boston, which made it an important transportation hub for goods and people moving between these two cities. Walthamstow prospered until King Philip's War (1675-1676) destroyed much ofBoston and killed many residents including many Hatchet Men rebels who had sided with England against France during this conflict. As a result, many English settlers decided to move away from Boston for fear that they would also be targets for attack by French forces operating within Boston proper. With few choice options remaining, some civilians opted to move into what is now Watertown – one of America’s earliest settlements outside New England – in order to maintain their homes and businesses while awaiting news from home about safety and hope for the future.[1] The original water mill on Boylston Street was built around 1640 by John Eliot (the founder of Harvard). By 1700, several mills had been built along Boylston Street; however only Eliot’s remains are still standing today (although he did not live long enough to see his building completed).[2] The water supply for Walthamstow came primarily from creeks flowing through forested areas northwest of town; however over time there was an increase in demand for water supplies from industries located near downtownBoston[3] which necessitated construction of dams upstream along the river[4]. The first dam was built at Congaree Falls in 1768,[5] followed by another at Winthrop Dam four years later[6][7][8] both projects were designed by Colonel Benedict Arnold [9][10]. Colonel Arnold played a significant role leading Boston's resistance against British forces during King George's American Revolution [11]. While most citizens turned out against Arnold during his military campaign against Great Britain – known as "The Patriot Act" - some local officials supported him because they believed he could provide them with more reliable water sources than those offered by London.[12][13][14]). With growing industry within downtownBoston and increasing demands for water resources throughout southeastern Massachusetts,[15], it wasn't until 1837 when Watertown became official capital city status within Provinceof Massachusetts Bay when Governor DeWitt Clinton relocated from Worcester.[16] WhenGovernor Clinton moved City Hall from Worcester into Watertown following its incorporation as a town,[17], he intended it as temporary headquarters until Congress could build new facilities closerto centralBoston[18]. As City Hall sat vacant across river from where it currently stands (between Beechman Square & Northgate Shopping Center), proposals were floated among various civic groups regarding whether or not perhapsMovements should take place towards renovating or reconstructing City Hall rather than abandoning it altogether[19]. However nothing ever materialized given that funding considerations always seemed much more pressing than restoring/constructingCity Hall which simply wouldn't have met current standards given present day infrastructure constraints within MAB.[20],[21],[22]} Priority #1: Residential Development! One major project currently under consideration within MAB regards residential development! A proposal has been submitted requesting $5 million dollars be allocated specifically towards this endeavor which would create upwards Of 1,.5M sq ft (~$50M) Of office space occupying approximately 2 blocks northward across Endicott Avenue from Neal Arena Stadium! This proposed development would likely impact numerous businesses situated adjacent thereto including 3QD Printing Company & associated restaurant & retail stores - all close-in witnesses directly impacted by any potential development! Additionally neighboring properties include 4Th Floor Coffee House & Live Oak Brewery - both currently unoccupied due TO recent construction mandatedby developersNext door on Endicott Avenue... both baristas (& brewers!) will be hard pressed indeed just make ends meet paying rent combined!), making additional impacts experienced herein already well documented pursuantrespective stoppages/deprivation arisingfrom prior street closures impacting nearby residences additionally noted supra... Priority #2: Maintaining public Spaces Open For Public Use During Construction!!!
