In 1850, the Chicago Gun Club merged with the Illinois Gun Club to become one of the largest gun clubs in America. The late 1800s saw an increase in rifle shootings throughout America as technologies such as breechloading guns (the first European breechloaders were invented by Nicholas-Jacques Conte in 1795) made rifles more efficient at firing rounds rapidly through a barrel. This led to increased demand for rifle scopes on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean as shooters increasingly needed clearer views of their targets at long distances. Waltham, Massachusetts is a town in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 11,824 at the 2010 census. Waltham is located on the South Shore of Boston and was part of the Greater Boston area until the repeal of the Metropolitan Area Compact in 2011. The town was created from parts of Dorchester and Roxbury. The first settlement in what is now Waltham took place in 1636 when John Winthrop founded a small trading post on an island in Narragansett Bay. By 1823, there were over 150 people living in Waltham proper and 350 residents residing across its four wards: North Ward (the north shore), West Ward (southwest corner of Beacon Hill Road and Park Avenue), East Ward (east side of Quincy Street) and South Ward (southwest corner of Hampshire Road). In 1862, when Worcester County became part of Massachusetts, much land around present-day Waltham was annexed to it including most of present-day Dorchester County. In 1888, after years nomination voting by selectmen to determine who would be Mayor and Aldermen for each ward failed to elect any candidates due to lack of nominations from all sections within the town boundaries; Springfield's second mayoralty occurred without formal election that year as a result. On January 15th, 1861 – one week after Worcester County merged into Massachusetts – a vote by selectmen to annex more land around present day Waltham passed with only 3 dissenting votes out of 12 total - making it one-seventh time since 1776 that selectmen have voted not to annex additional land outside their wards within their own townships! This shows just how important township government was during these early days as entire neighborhoods within today’s townships were once single villages or hamlets with little ability for residents thereof to intermingle or cooperate politically or economically with those living elsewhere within their respective communities/townships! With rapid growth ensuing throughout Northeastern Massachusetts during World War II – due primarily to shortages occurring domestically due Steel production quotas set forth by FDR via Executive Order 9382 – numerous military installations sprang up throughout our community including two airfields used extensively during Operation Neptune’s Spear aerial bombings campaign against Japan: Norton Air Force Base & Cold Spring Harbor Naval Air Station - both now designated National Military Landmarks!!! In recent years however several businesses have closed down locally & others relocated away citing high cost associated with keeping pace (& competition from bigger cities) with continued economic recession nationally!!! Lastly though some good has come from our community thru incorporation into neighboring municipalities (& later annexation achieving certain goals established therein); nonetheless maintaining close ties remains critical especially given global events happening frequently these days!!
