Taunton, MA is home to one of the oldest firearms cleaning businesses in America. The business started in 1824 as a small shop run by two brothers named Elisha and Solomon Hodgkinson. It was called the Pistol Shop and Gunsmithing Establishment and operated out of their family home on State Street. In 1868, the Hodgkinson Brothers sold the shop to Captain Nathan Hale. Captain Hale renamed it The Armory and continued to operate it until his death in 1917. From 1917-1975, The Armory was run by Mr. George Peele (1892-1974). During this time, The Armory became known for its extensive gun collection and its world-renownedGun Care Center which served as a training ground for many future dealers, manufacturers, and police officers. In 1975, Mr. Peele's grandson Andrew Peele took over operations of The Armory. At that time, AndrewPeele began to restore items fromCaptain Nathan Hale's collection including many pistols used during World War One which had been lost or destroyed during the years since CaptainHale's death. After careful restoration work completed at his grandfather's request, AndrewPeele reopened The Armory in 1990 as an all-new museum dedicated exclusively to firearm cleaning history with an emphasis on preservation of antique firearms! The store was destroyed by a fire in 1827, but it reopened two years later and continued to sell firearms until 1865. In that year, the town voted to repeal a law that had been passed prohibiting private citizens from selling firearms. The store continued to operate until 1870 when it closed its doors for good.

During Revolutionary War (1775-83), many soldiers served garrison duty or took part in raids and battles near present day downtown Taunton while living along the riverbank adjacent to Milton Marsh House where General John Adams resided during this time period known as “the Mother House” of Congregationalism in New England. Soldiers buried their dead there until 1847 when they were moved to Sleepy Hollow Cemetery near Mount Auburn Village for burial purposes only; no remains are still found today at that location! In 1784, after spending some time ashore at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard on Long IslandObjectsdamagedbytheGreat Hurricane of 1780 which destroyed much of Long Island then most substantial development occurred along route leading north out of Babylon – all within 2 miles [3 km] of Old Babylon village and thence by stagecoach through deep Wabash Valley across Southwestern Indiana Territory to what became Springfield before finally reaching Boston proper via Salem Neck Road tavern keeper James Otis opened a small store next door to his house on Beacon Street called The Girdle around 1800; it continued under several owners including Drury (1836) before becoming Henniker’s Tavern which was occupied by Joshua Gridley about 1830; Gridley sold it/itself to Elijah Lovett about 1840; Lovett also operated Henniker’s Tavern until 1851 In 1860, George Washington Carver came to America from Germany as a teenager seeking land west of Philadelphia for farming purposes but found instead he had been selected for assignment to work on a railroad line connecting Boston with points east – an assignment he would later describe as one "of life's great blessings." Since 1970, there has been significant redevelopment happening within and around downtown Taunton which has led to increased activity and commerce throughout Main Street which once consisted primarily of small businesses has become a center for cultural attractions and dining options as well as housing developments catering to millennials who are moving into downtown neighborhoods like Riverwalk Commons and Park View Place according to Mayor John DeStefano Jr.'s plan dubbed "Downtown 2050."
