However, during World War II Ammo production decreased significantly as munitions were diverted to other uses. In 1945, Winchester moved its operations from Taunton to Danvers for increased efficiency. Today, Winchester Repeating Arms Company produces a wide variety of firearms and ammunition including rifle and shotgun rounds as well as handgun rounds and projectiles for airguns and pellet guns. The company also manufactures reloading presses, state of the art ballistic calculators and dies for many different firearm types.

Taunton is a town in Massachusetts, United States. The population was 23,362 at the 2010 census. It is the most populous municipality in Worcester County and one of the fastest-growing towns in New England. The village of Taunton was first settled by English colonists in 1630 as part of the Plymouth Colony. In 1737, Taunton became an incorporated town with a meeting house and three stores. The Town Meeting House burned down in 1814 but was rebuilt soon after. On July 4, 1776, during the American Revolution, Taunton residents rose up against British forces besieging their town to free their compatriots imprisoned at Boston Necklace prison. Although they were successful in freeing most of their fellow citizens and liberating much property withinoston Necklace boundaries, they were ultimately defeated and drove out of town by British forces on July 10th following a bloody battle that left over 20 men dead and dozens more wounded. Following independence from Great Britain, Taunton slowly regained its lost status as an agricultural center due to new transportation connections made by the railroad industry which began developing here after 1800. By 1920 tuberculosis had become an important problem here due to relatively high rates of infection among working-class families living close to infected areas such as Factorytown Fenway Park where many men worked long hours without proper rest or cleanliness; this led to various interventions (e.g., compulsory workmen’s compensation) being introduced into local law to try and address these health concerns beginning around 1920 known as “the Progressive Era” harkening back to earlier times when good sanitation standards were still considered essential for public health before it became generally accepted that highly infectious diseases could spread easily through contact with unclean objects or people (Coxall 1978). Taunton experienced rapid growth during World War II thanks largely to its location on Route 128 – which served both as both a supply route for military munitions production throughout New England while also providing easy access both intotown for returning soldiers and tourists (and later becoming home to several large factories making goods for Allied troops), as well as post-war boom years when manufacturing resumed including Boeing's original WAVE factory built adjacent to what is now South High School; however like most other communities along Route 128 during this time period there were periodic outbreaks of soft drink tainted water contamination brought about by industrial waste products discharged from nearby factories In recent decades there have been several efforts underway spearheaded by Mayor Darrell Clarke (D) within the community itself aimed at revitalizing downtown streetscape; development near Interstate 95 has caused some traffic conflicts though overall it has been positive although some aspects remain unresolved such as plans for a large retail complex just south of I-95 that would have gone against community wishes; furthermore increasing awareness about environmental issues including climate change has driven interest in mysticism/energy healing practices being practiced here outside traditional medical settings Today despite these challenges remnants Of Main Street can be seen running perpendicular from Walnut St northward between I-95 & US 1 while businesses continue eastward towards Market Square

The town was founded in 1776 by Puritans from England who were seeking to found a new religious colony in America. In 1881, Taunton became the county seat of Plymouth County and remained so until 1988 when Lexington became the county seat. In addition to its role as county seat, Taunton played an important role throughout its history as a center for trade and commerce. Over time, the town grew into a vibrant community with strong cultural ties to England and other parts of Europe. Today,Taunton remains an independently-owned community with strong traditions and values that are integral to its culture and identity. One of the earliest settlers to arrive in what is now Taunton was John Smith who arrived in 1641. Smith built his home on present-day Main Street and began trading goods with other communities in New England before settling permanently in what is now Taunton in 1776. At first, the Puritan colonists found little success farming land near Boston due to bad weather conditions but they soon realized that they had made a valuable investment when they learned about European methods of agriculture which included irrigation systems and crop rotation. The town quickly developed into a thriving commercial center with many businesses located along Present-day Main Street which today still carries its original name: “The Avenue” after it served as one of the main streets through which merchants traveled during their day-to-day operations (see Map below). Many famous citizens of early Taunton include James Bowdoin (1812-1892), Drury Lane Theatre founder Edwin Booth (1839-1923), architect Augustus Saint Gaudens (1859-1935)and educator Amos Stowell (1796-1860). "Tintern Abbey", one of two churches established within minutes of each other on Saturday night by Reverend John Eliot (1672 - 1756), Congregationalist minister who came from Ipswich eastward bound on his way back from preaching at Wrentham."
The town of Taunton, Massachusetts was founded in 1635 by Puritan settlers. The town grew quickly and by 1770 it had a population of over 1,000. In 1827, the town incorporated as a village and changed its name to Taunton. In 1917, the town also became an incorporated city.
