From 1865-1868, Herbert C. Goodwin editorship followed until he resigned due to ill health. From 1870-1872, Clarence Fenton took over as editor until his resignation due to ill health also. After Fenton's departure, Augustus Eliot took over as editor until he resigned due to ill health in 1886. From 1886-1901 Frank Jaffe edited it before becoming publisher from 1901-1910. He relinquished control when World War I began and it reverted back to its previous name of the Herald of Somerville which lasted until 1918 when it merged with other publications once again becoming known as simply The Herald of Somerville
