Revere is a town in Plymouth County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. They were joined by other early settlers such as Nathanael Greene (1641-1714), Jonas Green (1650-1724) and Anthony Browne (1653-1728). By 1700 there were over seventy families living in Revere. In 1781, when Massachusetts became a state following its admission into the Union as a state, Revere became one of its original towns. Its first postmaster was Samuel Pownall Jr., who served until 1800; then Amos Day took office for six years until 1802 when he moved to Framingham due to health concerns about living close to Bostonians who had high levels of pollution from their factories. By 1830 there were 1,500 people living in Reveretown alone; by 1840 that figure had grown to 4,000 people making it one of the largest villages anywhere within two centuries! In 1852 Captain George Ayer landed at Vineyard Haven with his schooner "Eagle" after capturing her captors during King George III's naval expedition against France off Nova Scotia; he set up a trading post here known today as Ayer's Cove which continued operation until 1971 when it closed down because of damage done by Hurricane Agnes!
