Revere is a town in Hampshire County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 5,646 at the 2010 census. It lies on the southern bank of the river Merrimack and is part of the Boston metropolitan area. The first Europeans to explore the area were two other brothers, Samuel Adams and John Winthrop. They explored in 1629 and 1630, respectively. In 1633, an English vessel called "Dolphin" was wrecked on nearby Marcus Hook beach and some of its crew went ashore to trade with natives. One of these men, Edward Winslow (later Governor of Massachusetts Bay), became interested in this opportunity and set out for Revere with his brother Simon downriver to explore what he had found. They soon realized that they had discovered a new land which they named New England after King George I of England who had given them permission to do so. Winthrop then sent letters home reporting their findings but it was not until 1639 that anyone built a permanent settlement in Revere - by then known as Cambridge - because there were only about 30 people living there at the time. The first building erected here was a small fortification made from logs dug up from the bottom of the river where still stands part of it today; it served as a military post duringEnglish Pequot War (1636-38). In 1774-75 General Gates invaded Great Britain and when he reached Revere he learned that many people had left for British America because their homes back in Massachusetts were destroyed by fire during King George's war against France. He ordered all inhabitants within five miles (8 km)of Boston must leave or face destruction. These orders led to much speculation among those few remaining colonists how long they would be able to hold out against such overwhelming odds before succumbing; but on July 10th 1775 an order arrived from London stating "the Towne [revere] having been evacuated by its owne Citizens for wantonnesse & carelessness therein...No more shall be forced thence". This ended any hope that Revere might remain under English control another day: since no one could stay if they wanted to they all returned home within days or weeks afterwards according to one source Thereafter continued hostilities between Great Britain and France prevented any permanent development outside Boston while settlements were established throughout New England due primarily toaxillary reasons like strategic location or easy access land . In 1802 Revere merged with Bedford into one municipality . Today most people identify themselves as either farmers or fishermen based upon their specific occupation however many also retain religious affiliations

Revere was founded in 1636 by Puritan settlers. It became a town in 1768 and a city in 1853. The population of Revere was over 100,000 at its peak in the 1920s. The modern downtown area is home to Revere Village, an open-air shopping mall, and the Revere Museum of Fine Arts.
