A landing stage called "Chatham" was built northeast of Revere by Captain John Smith in 1619 while he commandeered HMS Beagle on his exploration voyage around North America (the first successful circumnavigation). From here small boats could be transported upriver to marketplaces such as Ipswich or Salem before being unloaded at Chatham again for transport downriver to Portsmouth or Lynnhaven Island where they could be sold or used for fishing trips upstream from Ipswich entailing several hours journey across open water with very little shore leave; this mode of transportation continued until about 1840 when steamboats became available which made it much faster and easier to move goods between towns along river valleys like Plymouth Sound without having to disembark at each portage point! The chatham landing Stage later served as an engine house used by Maston & Son shipbuilders during WWI until it closed operation in 1942 due to anti-aircraft fire from USAAF bombers over Hingham Naval Air Station! In 1825 Samuel Slater opened Slater’s Whaling Company with disastrous results but inspired him enough so that he reopened it two years later with more success andrew smith & son followed suit shortly thereafter giving rise to what we know today as Andrew Smithson’s Whaling Company (ASCO) which operated outof New Bedford harbor into WWII Thurlow 400 “catboats” manned mainly by teenage boys working long hours for tiny wages loading/unloading cargo worth millions of dollars every season When World War II started as American forces invaded Japan things changed radically within ASCO; supplies began flowing into Japan through Misawa Freeport just outside Osaka thenExclusively Japanese owned since 1941!!! This process continued apace with shipments arriving daily including massive quantities of oil needed for Japanese war efforts followed soon thereafter by huge amounts lead (Zinc) ??? In 1947 ASCO merged with Andrew Smithson’s Shipping Corporation becoming Andrew Smithson Marine Lines Incorporated ??? eventually merging once again withAndrewSmithsonMarineLines plc formingAndrewSmithsonMarineLines PLC
