He did not stay long as he died childless within six months after arriving. His brother Andros Davenport took up residence nearby and ran an ferry service across Winnipesaukee River between their properties until 1814 when they sold their land to Captain Jonathan Putnam Jr.. Captain Putnam had been captain of HMS "Conquerer" which captured English shipping off Long Island during King George II's War (1688–96).
