Quincy, Massachusetts is home to the oldest optical store in New England and one of the most well-known optical stores in the world. The store was founded in 1793 by Nicholas-Jacques Conte. The store's first location was on Main Street in Quincy, but it moved to its current location on Northampton Street in 1892. In 1947, the store purchased an entire building at 9 Northampton Street for $1 million. The building still stands today and houses the company's main offices as well as a number of departments including optics research, sales, service and parts. In 1977, Boston Optical Company merged with Nicholas-Jacques Conte's son Jacques Conte & Sons to become Quincy Scientific Incorporated. In 1984, Boston Scientific was acquired by Hyland Corporation and then sold to Amphenol Corporation in 1990. On January 1st, 2009 Hyland Corporation announced that they would be selling their optical business to Phillips Lighting Corporation effective February 1st. Phillips Lighting will continue to sell hygienic light bulbs under the K&N brand name while all other businesses within Phillips Lighting will be operated as part of Hyland Optical Industries LLC which will be headquartered in Springfield MA.

Kingston Landing would eventually become Amherst though much more effort went into developing this new community than did later efforts at QH within Quincy itself! 2 subsequent waves of immigrants arrived here from Great Britain between 1840-1851; both groups brought different skills with them to start businesses such as tailors, carpenters, printers etc.,kickstarting what would become one of America’s most entrepreneurial periods . This community had two important political events during this time: The incorporation referendum victory by John Fenton over incumbent Aaron Burr (the first time an American city had successfully achieved incorporation) and James Buchanan’s gubernatorial victory over Andrew Johnson in 1896 cementing Boston’s status as both “the metropolis” (large enough to support multiple levels of government) and “a force behind movements for social justice” (Stanton). As recently as 1970 only 8%of Quakers lived outside Boston proper while nearly halfof all residents worked within touching distance or within miles depending on type job ; yet despite being surrounded by large metropolitan areas with far greater economic opportunities they have managed to maintain their unique control over theirown lives & culture
