Quincy, Massachusetts is home to one of the most significant gun magazines in American history. The Quincy Gun Club was founded on July 3, 1827, and has been in operation continuously ever since. It is one of the oldest and most important firearms clubs in America. The club’s first magazine was a small pamphlet-sized publication called the Quincy Gazette which served as ainger for local shooting matches and competitions. The club’s first handgun was a six-shooter that was designed by John Pappus and manufactured by George Hennepin Arms Company. The gun quickly became popular among local shooters, being adopted as the standard weapon for many rifle matches and tournaments held throughout Quincy during the 1830s. The club soon outgrew its small pamphlet publication capabilities and began producing its own magazine which would become known as the Quincy Mirror. This magazine continued to be published until 1912 when it was replaced by The Patriot newspaper’s monthly magazine named after then-Senator William Dickey (D-Massachusetts). In 1916, The Patriot merged with other publications to form Hearst newspapers’ chain of magazines across North America. At this point, the Quincy Gun Club ceased operations completely due to lack of financial support from Hearst newspapers. However, not all members of the club were discouraged from continuing their effort; some individuals decided to create their own versions of the original journal/magazine format within their own organizations or even outside of Hearst media altogether. These later incarnations continue to be published today under various names including Guns & Ammo Magazine, History Illustrated Magazine, and simply "QGMC". Although there are no active meetings currently taking place at QGMC due to recent renovations undertaken by new management (purchased by current president Rick Fenton), dues remain unpaid until such time as society can once again meet together annually in order to share news articles, photos collection etcetera stored over 20 years ago!
