Quincy, Massachusetts is home to the world's second oldest continuously operating gunsmithing shop. The store, known originally as "The Pistol Shop," opened its doors in 1795 and has been a part of the town's community fabric for over 200 years. Quincy’s rich history with ammunition starts back when powder was first introduced to America on December 5th, 1776 by Captain John Smith. The first firearms were made from lead and shot which required a great deal of storage space and transportation. It wasn't until 1865 that Samuel Colt finally perfected his revolver which allowed American farmers and hunters to bring peaceable possession of firearms into the homes of their families. After Mr. Sibley's death, Fenton continued running the shop under new management until 1912 when he sold it to J P Hickey who operated it until 1916 when he sold it again to Harry Whitehead who ran it until 1951 when it passed into the hands of current owners Bob & Carol Quiney who continue operations today.
