Pittsfield is a town in Berkshire County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 27,914 at the 2010 census. Pittsfield is part of the Boston metropolitan area. Pittsfield Mayor Rich Fitzgerald has been in office since 2005. The first known inhabitants of what is now Pittsfield were two Algonquian Indians who named their land "Wadsworth". The town began to form as a small village on the south side of the river where Congregationalists had an meeting house from 1795 until 1812.
