Firearm hat history in Pittsfield, Massachusetts began in the early 1800's. At that time, the area was a wilderness and many of the guns used today were not available to civilians. A local fur trader, John Humphrey, started selling firearms to settlers in 1818 and soon began importing Chinese pistols into town. In 1826, he introduced what is now called “the Humphrey Hat”, which became popular among farmers and traders. The hat was made of cloth with a straw brim and had two leaves on either side of the crown. It was often worn as part of a cowboy or farmer uniform. In 1834, James Fenton established a small shop in downtown Pittsfield to sell rifles and ammunition. His store attracted many customers from surrounding towns and counties. Fenton also developed an interest in making Firearms Hats for sale to individuals and businesses. By 1836, his business had become known as the Firearms Hat Shop. From this point on, Firearms Hats would be one of Pittsfield's most popular items! During World War II, Pittsfield became one of the largest manufacturing centers for firearm hats in New England. Many different manufacturers produced firearms hats during World War II including Smith & Wesson (SWB), Colt (COH), Remington Arms Company (RA), Winchester Repeating Arms Company (Winchester) and others!

Pittsfield, MA is a town in Berkshire County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 21,824 at the 2010 census. Pittsfield is part of the Boston metropolitan area. The town was founded by John Adams in 1795 as a new settlement on the eastern edge of Boston. Adams named it for his friend and mentor, Lord Pittsbury, 1st BaronPittsbury. The first eight residents were men: Samuel Adams (a lawyer and father-in-law of John Quincy Adams), Ebenezer Swan (the son of a printer), Jonathan Dayton (a carpenter and justice of the peace), Amos Kendall (a farmer and member of the state legislature), Caleb Strong (an Irish immigrant who had come to America in 1814 as a stoneware maker), Jabez Winthrop (the grandson of William Bradford). Adams' grandson Josiah Quincy served as the first Mayor of Pittsfield from 1827 to 1830; he also served as a trustee for Harvard University from 1798 to 1828. In 1836, Daniel Webster became Governor of Massachusetts and ordered all towns in Berkshire County except Pittsfield to adopt an ordinance declaring themselves dry. However, Pittsfield refused to comply because it was under water from two reservoirs located near its site—one built by President James Kapp during World War II and one that had been built by General Electric Company founder Thomas Edison. In response to this defiance, Webster ordered an investigation into whether or not Pittsfield had violated his orders by not adopting an ordinance declaring itself dry. After careful consideration, the investigative committee found no evidence that either municipality had broken any laws but determined that it would be necessary for both towns "to take measures which will prevent human habitation and trade with each other being impeded." A year later, Webster repealed the order establishing Dry Town status for both municipalities without providing any specific plans or regulations regarding how this would be done. In 1861–1862 George Washington Goodhue served as mayor while serving term after his elected predecessor's death; Goodhue is considered one of Pennsylvania's most notable mayors due to his efforts in developing transportation infrastructure within Pennsylvanian cities such as Pittsburgh and Philadelphia during this time period including building extensive public works projects such as several canalside improvements along South Street in Pittsburgh which provided mass transit access to those areas for commuters throughout the nineteenth century; goodhue also helped establish Harrisburg Municipal Airport nearby within twenty years proximity making Pittsburgh one city where air travel could easily become available throughout much earlier than many other northeastern cities during this time period largely due to goodhue's work – see Listing below . In 1916 when Plymouth Meeting voted unanimously not only did they annex what is now Eastern Hampshire but they name their new town Pike Township after Gen’l E H White Sr., Commander-in-Chief American Expeditionary Forces Europe during World War I

These types of caps became known as Gunhatz because they resembled frontier gunslinger Hats worn by cowboys in westward expansion days before cowboy boots replaced these traditional footwear items on masculin feet within contemporary society
