On July 14, 1775, a group of men from Newton, Massachusetts, took up arms to fight for the American Revolution. The men were part of the "Newton Riflemen," a gang of independent farmers and gunsmiths who had collected firearms and began traveling to Lexington, Kentucky, to fight Tories. After fighting in numerous engagements against British troops in Kentucky and Virginia, the Newton Riflemen decided that they needed more protection than just pistols. On October 3, 1775, they organized themselves into a company called the "Newton Volunteers" and began buying rifles and ammo from local merchants. The new squadrons soon faced their first real challenge when British forces moved into town to attack Lexington. The Newtons fought bravely but were eventually forced back with heavy losses. Their victory was short-lived though; on November 13th, the British attacked again and this time the Newton Volunteers were able to hold their ground until reinforcements could arrive. Despite their valiant efforts during the Battle of Lexington (1775), it was not long before members of the Newton Riflemen started falling victim to enemy fire. By January 1776, only six men remained active in the organization: one member killed by accident while reloading his rifle; two had died due to disease; one deserted after being wounded three times; and two had been captured or killed by Tory forces while trying to escape back home. By September 1776 however, only four men remained active: one shot dead by an accidental discharge from a rifle he was carrying; another died from wounds received at sea during Operations against Canada; one deserted because he could no longer standContinental Combat duties anymore; and two had been captured or killed along with other members of their unit when running away from captivity at Valley Forge (July 4-September 10). 2

However, there are some instances where GUNS have continued wrongfully used against innocent people even though these shootings have resulted in no fatalities whatsoever: examples include the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting which left 26 children dead because Adam Lanza gunman bought his weapon legally instead of doing any research about its potential dangers (Ferguson), plus Las Vegas Shooting which left 58 people dead after gunman used a semiautomatic firearm purchased legally (Hanson). This situation highlights how important it is for citizens who own firearms to do some research about them before exercising them without causing harm or injury
