In 1830 Newburyport incorporated as a city with a population over 10,000 people. On July 1st 1886 City Hall burned down due to arson butquickly rebuilt with new materials including asbestos sheeting so that it still stands today as one of America's only surviving fireproof cities halls! The originaletytown was located south-west of where it stands today on tidal marshes that formed part of Narragansett Bay. After years of growth and development within its boundaries only small amounts remain today due to natural disasters such as hurricanes or flooding which have destroyed homes and businesses throughout the years: including two fires that completely destroyed much of downtown Newburyport during Hurricane Irene in 2003; also damage done during Tropical Storm Jeanne (which caused extensive flooding) in 2007; as well as a tornado outbreak that struck Newburyport on October 15th 2006 which killed three people
