Newburyport is the largest town in Massachusetts and one of the most populous suburbs of Boston. The first Europeans to visit what is now Newburyport were the Mayflower Compact party led by Capt. In 1724, Samuel Eliot Morison erected a small brick building on Point Pleasant Beach which served as a meeting house for selectmen from Newburyport and Norwalk until 1812 when it was replaced by the current courthouse/town hall complex on Meeting Street. During World War II there was much activity at Naval Air Station惠特拉斯 ( NASDAQ:NAAF) located adjacent to present day Middleton East Road in southeastern Newburyport where many Marines trained during World War II including those that flew U-boats USS "Portsmouth" (DDG-5), USS "Midway" (CV-4), USS "Hornet" (PHI-8), USS "Scorpion" (SS-323)and USS "Wasp" (LHD-11). NASF also provided training aircraft for Transports Allied Powers operating out of British Isles such as RAF Bentley Priory near Farnborough while other activities included development of local radio systems used throughout America during this time period such as North American Aircraft Corp.'s Pye Radio Service #2A HF beacon transmitter at Blossom Hill near Southwick MA then later becoming Walthamstow Radio Corporation's CW service capable AM TSUNAMI Beacon transmitter at Centreville MA before it closed its doors in 1965.. Many Navy veterans returned home after the war and took up farming or bought businesses which continues to be an important aspect of life today within NASF boundaries . As mentioned earlier many people from NASF have gone onto become educators or other career paths within our community . Katherine Boozer became headmistress at Our Lady's School #1 in 1960 serving until her retirement in 1998; she remains one of only two women ever appointed headmistresses of all public schools in Massachusetts . Mrs. Boozer has also been instrumental in setting up various school programs such as Head Start & Early Childhood Development; music education; special needs teaching; physical education; art appreciation & instruction; leadership development courses.; multiculturalism classes.; summer camps ..... these days nearly every child attending school goes through multiple channels and opportunities to learn includingा karate chop lessons (& try new restaurants); dog walking/walking with kids going door to door.; cranberry juice fills up water bottles for morning hikes
