The original parish church was built between 1711-1715 by Rev James Halliwell: "A new parish church dedicated to St John Baptist was erected about 1711 by Rev James Halliwell...It replaced an earlier building that had been destroyed by fire." It consists of two naves and two altars with five bays each flanked by six Corinthian columns supporting a pyramidal roof . The scheme features Gothic Revival elements including arches and spandrels . A belltower also exists within this structure which dates back to 1875 – it contains three bells weighing 20 pounds each cast from solid bronze – one dating to 1701 – while another two were cast in 1889 – both have striking silver gilded bells similar to those in Westminster Abbey . From 1847 until 1941 it functioned as part of Revere School, which merged with Brocklin School District #4 into what is now Revere School District #5 in 1941; prior to this time school functions were split evenly between Brocklin School District #4 (#north end) & Revere SchoolDistrict #5 (#south end). From 1951 until 1974 it operated as part of Marlborough Elementary Schools along side Exeter Middle/High schools; following this merger Exeter Middle/High school moved into their own building next door[Marlborough Elementary Schools closed down]& Marlborough Elementary reopened under new ownership."
