After becoming an integral part of Rhode Island for many years before joining Massachusetts as a state in 1889, Quincy finally joined Massachusetts as New Bedford did in 1910 due to its proximity to Boston and its status as an agricultural center during prohibition times. The King’s Heron Holder was especially popular because it could be easily modified to fit any rifle or shotgun barrel size. The English Higgins Holders were also very versatile and could be attached to either legs of any chair or table, making them perfect for use at ranges outside of home. The German Weise Holders were similar but lacked adjustable straps and were most commonly used indoors. In 1865, two separate companies started manufacturing Shooting Target Holders: Brownells & Co., Inc., which produced red dots (standard targets), and Butler Manufacturing Company, which produced green dots (shooting targets). Soon after, other manufacturers began producing their own versions of these standard devices, creating a vast array of shooting target holders products available on the market today!
