Eventually they organized into groups called companies or villages whichthey then proceeded to settle around Ipswich Harbor on Long Island Sound [4]…. In 1636, Edmund Andros set out from Plymouth with his main body of men including five children under the age of 10 years old: John Andros II (born 1598), Mary Andros (born 1600), Christopher Andros (born 1599), Thomas Carver III (born 1600)….Andros sailed down Narragansett Bay on July 4th1636 seeking passage back home….. he only sighted open sea but as he got closer he could see houses on shoreline….. so he anchors offshore…..and started walking up beach towards them when about 20 Indians jumped out Maskatogue River……..and ran away screaming”-from “The Journal Of The Expedition Against Captivity At Rhode Island” written by Samuel Eliot Morison As soon as they saw these British sailors coming ashore they ran away screaming……………New Bedford residents managed to capture three Indians including captain Edmund Andros before fleeing aboard ship…………….the rest made it safely back home……………………………. By 1700 there were over 1,000 people living here………….. This period marked Increase Of Fishing Industry Which Led To Increase Trade With Foreign Lands
