Methuen, Massachusetts is a town in Plymouth County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 1,554 at the 2010 census. It lies on the border of Plymouth and Northampton Counties and is east of Worcester. The town was first settled in 1786 by Methuen natives John Methven and his wife Sarah Goodspeed. The Methvens named their village after themselves: METHUEN (meaning "place where they met"). In 1824, Englishman Richard Stockton bought a tract of land in what is now Methuen from Indian leader Moses Stonington for £4 worth of goods. At that time, only about 400 people lived in Methuen; but by 1830 it had increased to 1,200 residents. In 1828, Seth Lovejoy established a gristmill here which became one of the largest in New England. By 1840 there were also sawmills and other mills in operation. In 1851–1852 Ebenezer Fuller built the first brick courthouse west of Boston; it still stands today (stately and unaltered since its construction). The town's economy grew greatly during the latter part of the 19th century as new industries developed such as cheese making and flour milling. In 1903–1904 an ice plant was built here; it closed down shortly afterwards because of pollution from nearby factoriesites decline during this time period although some evidence suggests that ice might have been produced locally even before this problem came to light due to environmental concerns about local production capabilities post-WWII onwards! Methuen's growth slowed significantly following World War II until its resurgence during the late 1990s with a focus on creating jobs for its youthful population within variousenterprise sectors such as technology start-ups etcetera etcetera... methuen has become known for being one of "the most"startup towns"in Massachusettes!!!

In 1820, Methuen lost its charter as a parish because it did not meet state requirements for incorporation as a village. However, it regained its charter in 1827 when it joined with Easthampton and Southborough to form one new parish called Easthampton-Southborough Parish (later renamed Cromer). Methuanians played an important role in early American history through their roles as farmers and merchants. In 1775, Seth Warner served as commander of troops at Framingham Neck where he met General George Washington while campaigning against British forces nearby. Afterward, Warner established himself as one of America’s most successful businessmen; he later served on various boards and committees throughout his life. By 1800, however, Warner had moved away from methuanian settlement Patterns into larger towns such as Quincy and Boston due to financial difficulties caused by waves of imported labor during this period known as “the Great Migration” which increased demand for agricultural goods across many Northeastern states during the 19th century boom years following America’s economic resurgence following World War I (1914-1920).
Methuen, Massachusetts was first settled in 1638 by Puritans. The town began to rise in popularity as a commercial center due to its good location, rich soil, and abundant resources. When the Revolutionary War broke out, Methuen sided with the British and was burned by the patriot's forces. However, aftermath of the war led to a resurgence in business and population growth. In 1825 Methuen became a town charter city.
