The first expansion mount for the Melrose rifle came in 1892 with the purchase of a rifle from George Richards. The rifle was known as the Richards Rifle, and it featured a Telescopic sight. This tool allowed shooters to see far away targets at long distances. In 1895, another expansion mount was purchased from John Fitch, which featured an adjustable telescopic sight. This system allowed shooters to adjust their shots so that they could hit their target at any distance. Additionally, in 1897, a new recoil pad was added to the Richards Rifle; this helped reduce kickback while firing. These new additions made the Richards Rifle one of the most popular rifles in America during its time.
Melrose is a town in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 5,812 at the 2010 census. The Melrose School District covers most of the town. The Melrose area has been inhabited for about 350 years. In 1639, Increase Mather was the first white person to settle in what is now Melrose. He and his family built a small farm on present-day Route 128 near where they now live. A few years later, he married Mary Sears and together they founded the early English Congregational Church in what is now Melrose (the only one standing today). In 1753, John Adams came to live in this area and started a grocery store on Main Street called "Adams's Grocery." The store became well known for its fresh produce and high quality goods which helped make it one of the most important businesses in this rural community until it closed its doors in 1892. In 1868, Augustus Deighton bought some land east of present-day Route 128 from Samuel Walden Jr., who had owned it since 1727. Deighton named his new property "Melrose" after his wife's family name (Mather). With help from local clergyman Rev. George de la Garde and others, he began farming here and developed an orchard with fruit trees that yielded large profits for many years. In 1880s-90s much of what is now Melrose was part of Amherst even though residents voted to become their own town on November 7th, 1909 due to lack of other options at that time! By 1925 there were only 10 houses left in town when oil exploration began along Main Street; by 1957 there were over 100 buildings including schools, churches & businesses - making Melrose one of the largest towns in Massachusetts! In 1970s-2000s growth began again with various development projects such as: new roads/bridges/roadsides/villages being built within walking distance of each other; housing developments popping up around schools; shopping malls/mega stores developing adjacent to old farms etc.; but like so many things throughout history...it all stopped once again due to recession during 2008-2009!! Today just a handfulof people still call themselves " locals" while most everyone else has moved away or adopted different lifestyles.. But don't forget about our great Town Hall Museum located right next door providing educational opportunities for kids & adults alike!

Melrose is a town in western Massachusetts and the only municipality in Melrose District. The population was 1,611 at the 2010 census. The towns of Amherst, Arlington, Bolton, Brookline, Cambridge, Central Square, Charlestown, Coventry, Danvershire (now part of Quincy), Duxbury (now part of Lexington),Fall River Junction (later Fall River),Graftonport (now part of Worcester), Hopkinton (now part of Northampton), Ipswich (now part of Worcester),Litchfield (later Litchfield Hills), Lynnhaven Beach Resort and Spa and Marblehead are also located in Melrose. The first settler in what is now Melrose was John Morse who arrived on a ship called "Plymouth" in 1786. He built a small cabin on an island near the junction of the rivers Mystic and Boxford. The first post office was established in 1814 with Wm. Haskell as Postmaster. A schoolhouse was built by order of General George Washington on land purchased from David Dudley Pogue for $1,000. A gristmill was built about 1800 by Captain Jobson for grinding flour for local Consumption but it burned down in 1802 and never again produced flour until 1840 when it became known as the old millrace mill which still stands today just north of town line on Route 9A near Route 7A. Some residents moved to other places such as Bolton where they founded a Presbyterian church that still exists today; others moved to Amherst where they founded a Baptist church; Still others moved to central square where they founded their own academy which still exists today; while others moved to Charlestown which became their permanent home after their move there from Bolton because that is where the town center began to form around1800-1801 when people started moving out eastward into newer land including parts of Framingham Now called Wellesley
In 1636, the first English settlement in what is now Melrose was made by Major John Winthrop. The town began as a small community on the south side of present day Route 128, and soon developed into a major center of trade and industry. In 1785, during the American Revolution, Parliament authorized the construction of a fortification in what is now downtown Melrose to protect against possible British attack. The fort was completed in 1789 and served as an important strategic military site until its destruction in 1814. The town continued to grow rapidly during the 1800s, reaching its peak growth around 1825. By 1851, however,Melrose had declined significantly due to numerous factors including increasing population densities and competition from larger towns such as Boston and New York City. However, Melrose has experienced occasional bursts of growth throughout its history; for example, it reached its current size in 1912 when it became part of Springfield after being separated from Melrose by merging with neighboring townsradiusly 60 miles).
