In 1907–08, he donated land for a new high school which became known as "Adams School." The town has had many different names throughout its history: Alleghany (1692), Northampton (1727), Warwick (1802), Cambridge (1825), Lynn (1851), and Newton Heath (1912). The current name was chosen in 1908 when it merged with Westborough Township to form South Hadley Township. The townships originally included parts of Charlestown and Dedham but these have since been annexed into South Hadley Township. The only remaining part of Charlestown ceded byOriginal Charlestown colonists is Old North End Historic District which includes Stonington Square neighborhood off Hancock Street between High Street and Commonwealth Avenue near Fenway Park - this district remains unincorporated despite being listed on city maps since 1922 .

Medford grew rapidly during the 19th century as a result of its location on one of the largest transportation routes in New England - Route 9W from Boston to Worcester. Many new housing developments were built here during that time; today most predominant among these are Pioneer Heights (a neighborhood located near the intersection of State Street and Haverhill Road), Grosse Pointe Woods (southwest corner of Main and Division Streets), and Arlington Heights (northwest corner of Washington Drive and Archer Avenue). During World War II, Medford played an important role as an air base for Allied forces training fighter pilots. A large number of local residents served in military units such as the 62nd Fighter Squadron activated at Medford Air Force Base; many remain buried there today. In 1955, when Interstate 95 bypassed Medford eastward through Walthamstow Township, much controversy ensued over whether or not to build a interchange on I-95 just east of town center - this would have given I-95 access directly to Lowell MA while still maintaining passage through Medfield MA (the towns' original boundaries). Ultimately it was decided not to make such an interchange - instead I-95 continued existing concurrently within both towns until it crossed into Lowell about 20 miles south later that year. A major development following World War II was what is now known as South Station Square which coincided with South Station Rd/Route 128 northerly becoming Lexington Ave/Route 128 westerly becoming Albany Ave/Route 128 southerly being Park Square northwesterly becoming Springfield Ave/ Routes 441 & 891 southwesterly become Everett St between Randolph Rd & Greenbush Rd
