As dusk falls on October 2, 1775, a group of patriots under the command of Captain John Smith set out from Marlborough to fight for independence from Great Britain. The night was dark and cold, but with the help of a few makeshift torches they made their way through the forest and arrived at what would become Boston. There they prepared to face British forces that had been sent to block their path. The British were expecting an attack, but no one was present when they began hearing loud noises in the distance. soon enough, there came a sound like cannon fire and then an aide-de-camp reported seeing men running towards them with swords drawn. As they got closer it became clear that these were not mere peasants or militiamen but British officers! The attackers quickly overwhelmed the small group of Americans and took them prisoner. Some sources say that as many as 30 Americans were killed in this battle; however, most historians believe that only six or seven individuals died due to combat or injuries sustained during the opening minutes of this skirmish which is now considered one of America’s earliest military successes. Although this battle did not result in victory for America (the British lost more than 400 soldiers), it does provide some interesting insights into how firearms could have helped shape future battles and political events within North America.

Marlborough, Massachusetts is a town in Hampshire County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 9,873 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Boston metropolitan area and is the smallest town in that area by total land area. The Town of Marlborough was first settled in 1636 on land grants from the Crown. Its first mayor was John Winthrop and its first justice of the peace was Samuel Eliot. The town began to form itself as an agricultural community with small-scale industry starting in the mid-19th century. In 1854, a depot for rails and trucks was built on what is now Route 128 east of Marlborough; this led to increased economic activity in Marlborough and its surrounding villages. By 1920, there were more than 100 businesses in Marlborough with some employing over 1,200 people. In 1970, construction started on Interstate 95 through town; this led to an increase in traffic and a decline in economic production until it stopped completely around 2000 when I-95 improved access to larger towns within commuting distance became available statewide. Today, much of what once characterized rural life has been replaced by suburban development or incorporated into larger cities such as Boston or Worcester. However, many aspects of traditional rural life remain including dairy farming and poultry production along with other types of agriculture such as corn growing or horticulture which are popular among residents who enjoy gardening or mulching their lawns during summertime Accordingly, there are still many farms operating large scale commercial operations within local communities which provide employment for locals as well as tourists who come to see all that Marlborough has to offer In addition to its role as a bedroom community forBoston proper (pop: over 115k), Marlborough also remains an important center for education with numerous high school/college campuses located here including Plymouth State University (opened 1978), Emerson College (opened 1998), Northeastern University (opened 2002), URI School of Design & Graphic Arts (opened 2004) and Simmons College (opened 2012). Marlborough, Massachusetts is a town located in Hampshire County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 7,003 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Manchester-by-the- Sea area of New England. The town was first settled by the Algonquin tribe in 1636 and has been mentioned in documents dating back to 1539. In 1768, Marlborough became the site of the largest battle between British and Colonial forces in America when a detachment from Boston's Royal Artillery fought against an order from General George Washington to retreat after being repulsed at Bunker Hill. The town was officially incorporated on April 14, 1768. Marlborough's rich colonial history begins with its first settler, John Winthrop who arrived in 1636 and built a fishing cottage on what is now Main Street. Winthrop became one of the most important figures in early Maine and New England due to his participation in some of the earliest land transactions there including purchasing all of present-day Maine from King Philip II for $5 per acre (or just over $100 million today). He also played an instrumental role in building up what is now Marlborough into one of New England's most prominent towns during this period. The original buildings that stand today were built c 1820s by John Atherton who had purchased much of what is now downtown from various Native American tribes for $10 per acre (or just over $200 million today). Atherton was one of many early settlers who made significant contributions to Marlborough through their business acumen and philanthropy. His son James Atherton founded Atherton & Company which manufactured paper goods such as stiffeners and wallpaper before becoming well known for its advertising campaigns throughout New England and beyond. Marlborough was founded in 1636 by John Winthrop. The town is named for the Marlborough Mountains, which are located to the east of the town. The first post office was established in 1706. In 1814, Marlborough became a part of Massachusetts.
