Marlborough is a town in Hampshire County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 10,045 at the 2010 census. Marlborough is part of the Boston metropolitan area. The town has been called "The Hub" for many years due to its location as the intersection of two major highways and its role as an agricultural center. Marlborough was first settled by English colonists in 1630 on land that now includes much of what is today Marlborough Township and portions of Northfield and Westfield townships. In 1635, John Winthrop founded a small trading post here which became known as Woburn after he bought land from the Indian Chief Wabanaki. The present-day village date back to 1818 when Captain Georgeushing erected a log cabin here on Great Pond Road. In 1777, during the American Revolution, Patriot General Edward Braddock's army reached Marlborough while retreating from Battle of Bunker Hill; however, because of several skirmishes with British forces over the next few days (including an engagement at nearby Coldstream Farm), Braddock's forces never made it to their winter quarters within artillery range of Boston proper. As a result, only three men out of fifty who traveled into Boston on July 4th were able to return home alive: Colonel James Paine (the future Prime Minister), Major John André (general surgeon with Braddock's army) and privateer captain Nathaniel Philbrick (Philbrick had accompanied Paine). Captain Georgeushing built his house on what is now Main Street in 1818. One year later he married Rachel Woodruff and they had seven children together: Sarah Peabody married Nathaniel Philbrick in 1830; Augustus Grandison died young; Franklin married Lydia Dodge in 1836; Martha married John Quincy Adams in 1840; Samuel Gridley Howe born December 21st 1840). Ultimately all but one child survived into adulthood - Franklin Howe would eventually become Ulysses S Grant’s Vice President during World War I - but it was Sarah Peabody who would play an important role in developing Marlborough into one of America’s most prosperous villages. Her husband served as selectman for twenty-four years and then Town Clerk from 1861 until his death in 1893 before becoming Marlboro’s first Mayor beginning with his inauguration on November 5th 1865 following the merger of neighboring WestfieldTownship into townhood status nine years earlier. Finally she also served one term as Selectwoman from 1903 until her death four years later having helped found both Town Hall and Village Green which still stands today across from Main Street central square where many Of her grandchildren live today!

Marlborough is a town in Plymouth County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 5,912 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield, Massachusetts Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Marlborough was John Eliot who arrived in 1636. The town was platted in 1657 by Captain Samuel Conte and named for Marquis of Marlborough, an Englishman who had traveled through North America on trading voyages in the early 1600s. In 1764, Colonel John Adams moved his family to Marlborough and started a small grocery business there. He also served as mayor from 1775 to 1776 and governor of Massachusetts from 1781 to 1783. Marlborough's history goes back even further than that; it is mentioned in the ancient poem "The Iliad," dated c. 753 BC. One source says that Achilles' mother built a settlement here during her stay with her husband Heracles after their victory over the Trojans at the Battle of Crete. Another source claims that this is where King David settled when he escaped Saul's pursuit on Mount Paran north of Jerusalem after defeating him at Gilboa (7th century BC). Whatever the case may be, it seems clear that this place has been home to some pretty important people throughout its centuries-related growth! It is bordered by townships of Ipswich to the north and Bridgewater to the east. The population of Marlborough was 3,783 at the 2010 census.
