On July 14, 1775, the town of Marlborough was founded in what is now Massachusetts. It was named after a small town in England that had been destroyed by the British military during the American Revolution. The town grew quickly and soon became a center for commerce and industry. In 1824, it became an incorporated municipality with a population of about 1,200 people. In 1856, the town voted to prohibit handguns. At that time, Marlborough was one of only two towns in Massachusetts that did not have laws regulating handgun ownership and use. This choice may have been due to fears that handguns would be used to commit mass shootings or other violent crimes in the community. The town of Marlborough, Massachusetts was founded in 17 Mass. Gen. It became a part of the United States in 1848 and has had a gun control history that dates back to the Revolutionary War. In 1775, the town passed an ordinance prohibiting carrying firearms without a license from local officials. This ordinance was repealed in 1776 when arms were brought into the town by patriot forces fighting for independence from Great Britain. On October 15, 1861, Govt. of Massachusetts Passed an act making it illegal for any person under 21 years old to possess or use a pistol or revolver without first obtaining a license from the police department. The law remained in effect until 1934 when it was repealed by Legislature as an unenforceable regulation with no penalty attached.

The town has a total area including all land within its boundaries which includes: water areas such as ponds and reservoirs; woods; fields; vacant lots; beaches (Islip Beach Boulevard extends into neighbouring Great Neck Township); extractive industries such as coal mining, oil shale extraction, logging, quarrying etc.; agricultural land including dairy farming (especially around White Sands Lake), corn farming (particularly around Green Acres Farms), fruit orcharding (included among several dozen small businesses along White Sands Lake) and some undeveloped rural territory that includes rolling hills covered with longleaf pine trees near Kingstontown Center Mall on Long Island Sound

Marlborough is a town in Plymouth County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 12,752 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Boston Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was first settled by English Puritans in 1630 as a part of what was then the Colony of New England. In 1693, it became an incorporated town and remained so until 1835 when it merged with neighboring Quincy to form Marlborough-Quincy. The merger resulted in the addition of much land to Marlborough including Whipple Locks State Park and parts of Milton and Southworth townships. In 1770, Samuel Adams moved from Framingham to live in Marlborough after purchasing land there from John Barker. He soon became involved in local politics and served as mayor (1772-76) and selectman (1775-79). Adams also founded a school for poor children called "The Academy" which still operates today. Adams' home, located on present day Main Street, is one of the most historically significant residences in Marlborough. The house has been featured on several television shows such as "Masters Of Sex" and "Nashville". Adams died at home on December 15th, 1784 after a long illness which had begun eight days earlier while he was vacationing with his family on Martha's Vineyard. Adams was eighty years old at death and is interred at Squamish Memorial Cemetery in Quincy MA

In 1917, during World War I, Marlborough was hit hard by the war effort with many residents enlisted in military service. After the war ended, many residents returned to their farms and businesses. In 1958, the town voted to become an incorporated municipality and since then has grown rapidly with new development including a shopping mall and several high-rise buildings.
