In the early 1800s, Malden was known as one of the most important optical suppliers in New England. In 1825, three Dutchmen, Hendrick Andriesse, Johannes Vermeer and Cornelis Dirks founded a company that becameode-Optikkenkerk in Malden. The company manufactured two types of lenses: single-coated and multicoated. The company also produced spectacles, telescopes and microscopes. The first major product from the company was a single-coated lens called the "Lena" in 1828. This lens had a focal length of 3 feet 6 inches and weighed 2 pounds 10 ounces. It was used by scholars to study nature at close range. The second major product from the company was a multicoated lens called the "Het Looiende Oog." This lens had a focal length of 10 feet 6 inches and weighed 4 pounds 8 ounces. It was used by artists to create artworks at close range. In 1832, Malden started producing oil lamps with multiple exposure Photographer's plates which allowed photographers to take many photos without having to remove each photo before printing them

Malden, Massachusetts is a town in Essex County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 13,614 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Boston metropolitan area. Malden is one of two towns in Essex County that are not part of Boston; the other is West Malden. The first settlement in what would become Malden was made on September 15, 1636 by General Edmund Andros and his troops during the English Civil War. The town was named after Sir John Winthrop who had landed there with three ships in 1630. The first house built in Malden was a log cabin called "Anacostia". On October 5, 1638, Colonel Robert Treat bought an acre (0.50 km²) of land for £10 from King Philip's War veteran Nathaniel Eaton and erected a large brick house there which he named "Treat House". On November 3rd, 1639 Captain Richard Cotton purchased an acre (0.50 km²) of land north of Treat House from Colonel Robert Treat for £12 and erected a larger brick house there which he called "Cotton House". In 1768 Captain James Laughton became headman of Malden after leaving office as deputy to Samuel Adams as justice of peace in Worcester County. In 1769 Reverend Ebenezer Goodrich baptized nine children born in or near Malden into Christianity at Goodrich's home on Meeting Street.. In 1801 when Saybrook Township formed out of parts of Middlesex and Worcester Counties new boundaries were drawn up including parts of present-day Malden village incorporating it into the new township along with West Malden On December 12th 1801 what would eventually become East Manchester Township also formed outgrowth from parts of Middlesex and Worcester Counties when all but 9 eastern blocks within Hartford Township were added to make way for more developed villages such as Milton and North East Manchester Finally on January 1st 1835 following much debate Steubenville incorporated into the newly created town while still included within Hartford Township setting off yet another boundary dispute between Steubenville residents over what should be considered their own community versus those living within Hartford Township

Malden is a town in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 11,552 at the 2010 census. Malden was first settled in 1636 by Puritans who arrived from England. It became a town on December 8, 1792 when it was included in Springfield Township. On November 15, 1818, Malden and other towns in Springfield Township voted to secede from Springfield and form what is now Watertown. Malden remained an independent town until 1861 when it became part of the larger city of Boston. Malden is located near the intersection of Route 128 and Route 9W. The name comes from the Dutch word "malfa" meaning "mud". The name means "midgewater" because there are several small ponds that make up most of the town'sscape. In 1792, two settlers named John Morse and Samuel Morse built a mill on Haverhill Pond which still stands today. The first post office in Malden was established on December 8, 1792 with Middletown as its mailing address. That year, there were only five residents in Malden; four men and one woman named Eliza Freeman and her daughter Sarah Williams (the only black person living in Malden at that time). The first postmaster was Nathaniel Day who served for six months before quitting due to health issues. In 1814-15, a store called “The General Store” operated out of a small building next to what is now the old high school gymnasiums at 413 Main Street which Trading Post Coffee used to be located too before moving across the street to their current location back then on October 14th 1914 just down stairs from where we currently sit! This store however did not remain open very long as soon after they moved they went out of business again! However their property still remains vacant lot next door to our current building although probably unused since it has been completely covered over with trees over years! There have been numerous campaigns throughout the years by various groups/ individuals trying to find orasing back onto this property so if anyone has any information please get in touch!
