The town of Malden, Massachusetts was founded in 1692 by the Puritans. The town passed through a number of changes over the years, including becoming a city in 1834 and then an incorporated village in 1913. In 1976, Malden became part of the city of Boston.

Malden is a town in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 7,715 at the 2010 census. Malden is part of the Boston metropolitan area. Malden is home to two high schools, one elementary school and one middle school. The local paper, "The Enterprise", has been published continuously since 1846. The name Malden comes from the Indian word "mallah" meaning to trade or traffic with others. The first settler in what would become Malden was John Adams who came overland from Rhode Island in 1636 and set up a homestead on present-day Main Street near where he later built the first house in what would become Malden. In 1741 Isaac Allston founded an academy here which became known as Allston Academy and graduated its first class of thirteen students in 1748. In 1770 Captain Benjamin Fenton led a group of Englishmen into this land that now includes much of Middlesex County when he began buying lots for settlement and naming them after himself including Fenton's Pond (now corner of Townsend Avenue and Park Hill Road). By 1800 there were over 150 houses in Malden with about 50 residents; by 1821 there were only 10 homes left but by 1830 there had grown to more than 200 people living hereabouts including 240 full-time residents who paid property taxes plus a small amount for services like streetlights and trash collection which then passed through town hands among the citizens until 1926 when they were taken over by the Townshends Malden's earliest settlers included five men who bought 640 acres north of what is now Center Street between Watertown Road and Wellesley Street: Nathaniel Holden, Ebenezer Granger,Joshua Goodspeed, Thomas Higginson and Samuel Norwood all arrived between January 1st and February 14th,. They named their new land Pleasant Valley after their home village - Hampton Court Palace - where they had been staying during England's siege of Portsmouth during the War for Independence (1775-76). There are several references dating back to this time period that show how early settlers thought about launching themselves onto these large parcels of land: One shows Joshua Goodspeed writing to Ebenezer Granger on November 25th, 1775 regarding his purchase from Nathaniel Holden: "I am well satisfied with my lot situate upon ye highways leading oute unto Southwark … I desire you will please move your family hither also it being very convenient." Another letter dated March 22nd same year shows Ebenezer Granger responding to Joshua Goodspeed saying he has received however many offers for his land but has not yet decided whether or not to sell: "I thank you very much for your offer & shall be happy once I have considered it." These letters suggest that some people did indeed come directly from Hampton Court Palace because those close to Cambridge felt so threatened by Plymouth Colony that they offered any help they could get while others likely traveled through other towns such as Ipswich or watertown before finally coming here themselves A second group settled within three years following John Adams' arrival according to one document "...and twenty nine families having settled down upon our lands within 3 years past ... we may justly call ourselves natives" : Nathaniel Holden Jr., Increase Mather Howe III (son of Increase Mather Howe II), Andrew Franklin Emerson etc.. This second group brought with them enlarging tools like plows, hoes, wagons etc which allowed farming tactics used today such as turning soils with horses power instead thereof using earlier methods like hand threshing which yielded less grain per acre . In addition most likely due diligence shown by these early colonists helped spur development around here such as mills located along Watertown Road soon becoming textile factories while smaller communities nearby prospered thanks largely too commerce handled either locally or via merchant ships traveling through Salem harbor With expanding settlements came growth rates associated with each successive generation especially given this open space surrounded mainly by densely populated areas back then ; thus births increased faster than deaths due primarily to available contraception/health care services available then whereas today life expectancies are much more recent making childbearing mandatory especially if economic opportunities are excellent . This pattern continued throughout 19th century giving rise various places namesakes including Saugus (later Somerville) Hitchhiker's Inn , Peddlestown (later Framingham) Beecher House , Hopkinton (later Hadley) Warehouses & Harper's Ferry Landing . It wasn't until relatively recently though that things started changing quickly resulting in rapid population declines often linked with natural disasters such as hurricanes Sandy & Irene Accordingly it should come as no surprise then that many businesses foundered or closed due simplyto lackadaisical management typical back then poring over financial records rather than constantly assessing current trends . For example one business owner mentioned above stated plainly "…in three months [their business] was gone". Another notable failure occurred when....the post office moved from its original location on Meetinghouse Hill...to Union Square after floods destroyed their old building ..It took another six months for replacements delivered courtesy of Marblehead merchants before mail again reached most residents [] Today few remnants remain visible remaining evidence being mostly defunct businesses abandoned long ago without any replacement plan put together

By 1700, there were over 100 people living in Malden including farmers, traders, militia members and craftsmen. In 1803-4 during the American Revolution, Malden was part of Drury's Brigade which fought against British forces under Admiral George Washington at Yorktown%. Aftermath of the war led to an increase in trade with Britain which made possible new technological advances like papermaking that would later revolutionize everyday life throughout America. During World War II, many residents chose to remain passive while their neighbors joined Axis forces because they could not support themselves without joining Handsome Johnny or worse yet turned traitorous like so many others from Middlesex County did during that time period. Only two out of every hundred households had radios by 1945 however today’s culture has produced an entire generation that grew up never knowing any different than those born during wartime – especially given how social media platforms have amplified 40 year old memories across oceans). During the Cold War years there was much development taking place both within town limits as well as beyond due to post-war booming economy but little public attention being paid towards either side until relatively recently when increased security precautions have again brought scrutiny for our southern neighbor (and long time friend) since 9/11/2001 despite claims otherwise emanating more FETO activity emanating from Boston Fenway Park where we annually hold events ...... Despite this recent uptick some may still incorrectly attribute all observed activity within Boston’s notoriously jihadist filled “Fareed Zakaria Neighborhood” located adjacent to Logan International Airport – alluding once again directly or indirectly (albeit through various proxies) to activities taking place closer to Ground Zero Mosque ...... Our objective here is not comprehensive nor scientific but rather journalistic; namely understanding why certain individuals are increasingly anecdotalizing seemingly anomalous behavior emanating from neighboring communities notwithstanding assertions otherwise .............. And finally ....... What does this say about our current political landscape?

Malden was first developed as a small village on the banks of the Wachusett River. The town was chartered in 1812 and named for John Malden, a Revolutionary War veteran and member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives. The first stores and homes were built in what is now Malden in 1814. In 1825, the town voted to create its own school system, which it did not maintain until 1903. In 1860, Malden became one of the towns in New England that ratified a measure providing for women's suffrage. In 1870, Malden again voted to establish its own school system, this time with an all-girls division. By 1890, however, both systems had been merged into the commonwealth's education department. In 1927, Malden joined with other villages along Route 9W (now called Watertown) to form the new town ofWatertown. The merger was controversial because Watertown was much smaller than either of those earlier villages and it took two years for residents to get used to their new neighbor
